A Message from the Principal:
Dear North Parents,
We have completed a full week of hybrid learning! We know that transitions are hard and this year is absolutely full of them. Next week we will have an altered schedule again that you can find below.
We are now several weeks into the third quarter. It’s important to remember that the third quarter can sometimes be a struggle for students. But we know we can get this new routine down and find success! Midwinter break is the following week, which is another transition, but we are hoping that your family’s week can be a restful one and time to reconnect with one another. Please let us know if we can help in any way.
Take Care,
Dr. Kathryn C. Murray

A Note from the Counselors:
It's time to start thinking about course selection for the 2021-22 school year. Students received their course selection form in their 3rd hour or electronically through their counselor course on Schoology this week. These forms are due back by Friday 2/12. Changing course requests is very challenging and may not be possible in August so please talk to your student about classes and reach out to your student's counselor with any questions. It is really important that students are mindful about creating both rigor and balance in their schedule. We will be meeting with students in school and virtually starting the first week in March to enter their courses in the computer.
Upcoming Dates:
- Virtual College Visit - Butler University on Friday 2/12 at 9:50 am (11th and 12th can sign up on Naviance).
- Virtual College Visit - Ball State University on Tuesday 2/23 at 2:15 (11th and 12th can sign up on Naviance).
- U.S. Army Zoom Visit on Wednesday 2/24 at 1:20 (11th and 12th can sign up on Naviance).
- Virtual College Visit - Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Thursday 2/25 at 9:50 (11th and 12th can sign up on Naviance).
- Wellness Group - Wednesday 2/24 at 12:15.

Self-Reflection
This past week has brought a lot of changes to our lives; a new semester (and all that comes with it), for many students the start of the hybrid schedule, and new routines. Everyone handles change differently and now is a good time to check in with yourself and your emotions. Self-reflection is an important piece of sustained wellness because it helps people “tune-in” when they may need some extra support or personal TLC!
Whether you prefer to journal, contemplate, talk through things with a friend, or check in with an adult you trust, the following questions are worth considering as we settle into the recent changes in our lives.
Ten Questions for Emotional Self-Reflection
- How are you feeling today, really? Physically and mentally.
- What’s taking up the most of your headspace right now?
- What was your last full meal and have you been drinking enough water?
- How have you been sleeping?
- What have you been doing for exercise?
- What did you do today that made you feel good?
- What’s something you can do today that would be good for you?
- What’s something you’re looking forward to this week?
- What’s something you can do “together” this week - even if you’re apart?
- What are you grateful for right now?

North Athletics
Yesterday the Governor & MDHHS announced that contact sports may resume practice and play starting Monday, February 8th. After meetings with the MHSAA and MAC there have been several changes to game schedules, safety protocols and guidelines. Please visit the athletic website (click the button below) for updated competition information.
The table below provides updated MHSAA and MDHHS information for post-season date changes, spectator guidelines, and testing protocols for wrestling beginning February 8, 2021.
Athletes need to arrive 15 minutes prior to practice start times. This will ensure the coaches have enough time to go through the COVID screening protocols - as laid out by the MHSAA and MDHHS. Please also note that as soon as practice is over, athletes must leave the school building. Athletes may not come early or stay late to watch other teams practice.
If your student athlete has signed to play a sport in college, please let us know by emailing: vandepl@gpschools.org.
