Dear John Wetten Families,
It is hard to believe it is February and we are halfway through the school year! This very unusual year seems to be flying by. February is always a busy month, and that has not changed even during Distance Learning. Valentine's Day is approaching, and many grade levels will be celebrating this fun holiday. We are also excited to offer some after-school music classes, please see the information below.
Let's also remember to celebrate all of the hard work students have put into making academic progress, along with all of the hard work staff has put into helping students remember why they love to learn. Certainly, a year such as this has had us all reflect on what students need most. More than ever, this school year our students have needed the social and emotional support to navigate this new and different landscape. The culture of care and the focus on social and emotional needs are as important as ever. Please visit our Counseling and Social and Emotional page linked below for access to materials that could benefit your family.
Sincerely,
Michael Clutter

After School Music Classes
We are very excited to announce that after school music classes will be starting on February 1st. These weekly classes are a chance for students to build musical skills while virtually connecting with their peers.
There will be two sections of each class with 25 available “seats” in each section. Each section will meet once a week on Zoom (see schedule below for more information). Spots will be first come, first served. Please sign up by Friday (1/29) using the following link: https://forms.gle/M6QYxz6WSrEn4sFo9
Kindergarten/1st Grade - Monday or Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:00
Sing, dance, and play with Ms. Smithson!
In these movement driven classes, students will explore singing, rhythm, and dancing through fun songs, dances, and games.
2nd/3rd Grade - Monday or Wednesday from 4:10-4:40
Little Songwriters
Get creative with music! In these classes, students will explore their musical creativity through songwriting games and activities, while also exercising their singing, rhythm, and movement skills.
4th/5th Grade - Tuesday or Thursday from 3:30-4:30 (with a 10 minute break built-in)
Music Technology and Production
In these classes, students will learn how to create music using the technology already at their fingertips. With free, online technology such as Chrome Music Lab and Bandlab for Education*, students will learn how to take recordings, use loops and electronic instruments, and create musical compositions and beats.
*If your student is interested in this class, please read the Bandlab for Education privacy policies which can be found here: https://blog.bandlab.com/edu-privacy-policy/ . To cooperate with COPPA, students will need to turn in a signed parent permission form to use Bandlab for education which Ms. Smithson will collect during the first few weeks of the class.
If you have any questions, please email Ms. Smithson at smithsonc@gladstone.k12.or.us.
School Supplies
New Box Tops Program
During this challenging time, our teachers and students need more help than ever.
No matter what school looks like, Box Tops for Education is a fast and easy way for
you to help out from home.
The Box Tops program has been around for over 20 years, and it really works. In fact,
Box Tops for Education has helped give almost a billion dollars to schools since 1996.
In 2019, the program evolved to become digital so that you can earn for your school
with just the touch of a button.
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS: Buy participating products and use the Box Tops mobile
app to scan your store receipt. The app identifies eligible products and automatically
adds Box Tops to our school's earnings online. Even if you’re shopping online or
doing grocery pickup, you can still submit your e-receipts and earn Box Tops. Twice a
year, our school gets a check!
Your earnings may seem small, but they really do add up. The more people that participate,
the bigger the impact we can make. So let's give our teachers the support
they need and help give more kids the opportunity to dream. Little by little, we can help make a big difference.
