RUSD Employee Recognition- Miss Spurr

Miss Shelby Spurr, our Speech and Language Pathologist here at SRES, was recognized at the RUSD Board Meeting this past week as an employee who goes above and beyond! Not only does she help our students develop the crucial skills of communication, she also is busy meeting with parents and our SPED team, completing hours of assessments, and developing numerous reinforcements; she can also be found working alongside a teacher who may need an extra pair of hands or a student who needs a caring, listening ear. She works well beyond her set hours, and does not miss a beat if ever asked to assist with anything, at any time, for any reason.

Shelby has helped our site to implement a variety of social-emotional supports. She actively serves as a contributing member of our PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) Tier 2 team. She sets up her popular “lunch bunches” to include students who need that extra connection, and even stays after school to entertain students whose parents may be running late and who might otherwise feel uncomfortable and worried.

She cares deeply for ALL students, ALL staff, and ALL families in our Sunset Ranch Community. Sunset Ranch is better because of her gifts and her willingness to serve in all capacities. She is truly a guardian angel over our school!

CalKids Savings Program

The State of California has launched the California Kids Investment and Development Savings Program (CalKIDS). CalKIDS gives children in California a jump start on saving for college or career training. CalKIDS accounts are being automatically generated for:

  • Children born in California on or after July 1, 2022; or

  • Any eligible low-income student, English learner, foster youth or student living in homelessness who attended public school for grades 1-12 in California during the 2021-22 school year and 1st grade students each year thereafter (beginning with the 2022-23 school year).

All participants receive a seed deposit between $500 to $1,500 in a CalKIDS account to help pay for future education after high school.

Families of eligible RUSD students will receive a notification letter from CalKIDS with information about their account. This letter will have directions for signing-into your account.

Families can also go directly to the CalKIDS registration website and enter your child’s Statewide Student Identifier (SSID) which is found in your child’s Aeries parent portal. Directions for accessing your child’s Aeries Parent Portal are found here. Call 916-630-3306 with any questions.

Additional information can be found on the linked flyers below, on the CalKIDS website, and will be sent from RUSD to each qualifying family. CalKIDS Program Flyers: English / Spanish

SRES School Site Council- Taking Nominations Now!

Partnering with you is a top priority for the success of our students and school. Therefore, Sunset Ranch is in the process of nominating and electing four new members to the School Site Council (SSC) for the 2022-2023 school year with a 2-year term commitment. The purpose of the SSC is to develop and approve the School Plan for Student Achievement; which is a comprehensive plan designed to improve the effectiveness of the school program and is in alignment with our Strategic Plan. The SSC also supplies input on the Safety Plan and RUSD Local Control Accountability Plan. In order to accomplish these tasks, the SSC meets four times a year to assess student needs, develop and approve the plans, and monitor progress.

The selection of members is a two-part process. First, the nomination process will be open now through September 30th at 4 p.m. Please submit your name and information in this FORM to self-nominate or nominate someone other than yourself. The school site will contact each nominee prior to placing names on the ballot for an election. Second, the election process will be open from October 3rd through October 10th. At that time, another email will be sent for voting. The nominee with the highest number of votes will be elected to the SSC for a 2-year term commitment.

SSC meetings are 3:10 - 4:30 p.m. on 11/28/22, 2/13/23, and 4/24/22 at Sunset Ranch in the Administration Building Conference Room. And new members will attend a district training on October 17th at 3:00pm.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Kircher at lkircher@rocklinusd.org
