Reminder of Morning Drop Off Prodedures
Thank you for helping to keep our children safe by following the following morning procedures:
Parent Drop-Off: Please use the South entrance on SOM Center Road. Form a single line in the right lane with your car, and wait until you can pull up safely to let your child off. THREE cars at a time should park near the sidewalk, and students should exit the car on the driver’s side directly onto the sidewalk. Parents are asked to help us move the line efficiently by giving hugs/kisses ahead of time and having all materials ready on your child’s lap for a quick exit. A staff member will be at the doors to assist both you and your students with this process. Cars from this drop-off line should exit the property on the North side of the Old Schoolhouse.
Parent Walk-In: If you wish to drive your student to school and walk him or her into the building, please park in one of the parking spots nearest the Mayfield Village Community Center, and walk your child into the main office door (#1). Students may not walk in the parking lot unattended as this is a safety hazard.
Parent/Teacher Conferences - October 10th from (3:00-9:00 pm) and October 11th from (7:30am-3:00 pm)
Participating in a parent/teacher conference is an opportunity for you and your child’s teacher to get a better perspective on your child’s educational growth and to share information which can benefit your child, the teacher, and yourselves. Preparing for the conference is essential for both teacher and parent. The following are tips that can help you prepare for the conference.
Before the Conference
1. Review your child’s test scores, papers, projects, etc.
2. Prepare specific questions you would like to discuss.
3. Think about situations that might be affecting your child’s behavior/performance and share this information with the teacher.
During the Conference
1. Please be on time and conclude the conference on time.
2. Relax – Your child is important to you and the teacher.
3. Ask for definitions or explanations of terms/things you do not understand.
4. Ask about classroom and homework expectations.
5. Find out how you can help your child be more successful in school.
6. If there are any concerns, work out a plan and set up a time for follow-up with the teacher.
After the Conference
1. Follow up on all suggestions made at the conference, and communicate results to the teacher.
2. Keep track of your child’s progress at school and regularly review class work, homework, and tests.
3. Keep the lines of communication with the teacher open and feel free to share information and/or ask questions as needed to ensure your child’s success.
We hope your parent/teacher conference is a rewarding experience. During conference hours, our art, music and physical education teachers will be available for discussions as well.
Halloween Costumes, Parties, and Parade
While planning your child’s costume for our school parties, please put an emphasis on positive types of characters rather than representations of scary, violent, or fighting characters. As in the past, children will not be allowed to bring any type of toy weapon to school. Masks may not be worn for safety reasons. Bare midriffs and plastic toy shoes will not be permitted. Parents joining in the fun are welcome to also dress up, but again, masks may not be worn.
The parade will begin at 1:15 pm, followed by the parties at 1:45 pm. Sign-in for the parade and room parent helpers will begin at 1:00 p.m. Only those designated as room helpers ahead of time will be permitted to the rooms prior to the parade. After the parade, all guests are welcome to join the parties in the classrooms to help celebrate.
The snacks for this event are funded by CSA. The snacks for this party will be donuts, apples and water. Donut ingredients are listed below. Please refrain from sending any additional food items with your child unless it has been prearranged with the teacher.
