About Ellen DeGeneres
Ellen DeGeneres was born January 26, 1958 in Metairie Louisiana. She went to Atlanta High School and Grace King High School and attended the University of New Orleans. She never realized she was funny until a speaking event in which the only way for her to get though it were to make jokes. she then realized her passion was to make people laugh. She began performing in 1981. She started performing at a local coffeehouse when she was 23. She got her big break when Johnny Carson acted on a tip from Jay Leno to go see her perform live. When he saw her show he instantly fell in love with her witty humor and invited her on his talk show. after then she got invited on many other talk shows and her fame grew and grew. She got offered the chance to have her own TV show and she began actnig on Ellen. The show was a hit but began getting critism because of Ellen openly acknowledging her homosexuality. However, she didn't let that effect her and continued on. However, after a few year, Ellen was cancled. Ellen began acting in hit movies and her fame grew even more. Ellen returned to the TV screen when she started her own talk show Ellen. Since then, the show has won and Emmy, nearly a dozen Daytime Emmy Awards and People's Choice awards. Ellen, a unique combination of kind and funny, has hosted many award shows and has many offers to judge talent competitions. Ellen over the years dated a few people but when she met Portia de Rossi she fell in love. After meeting in December of 2004 Ellen and portia got married in August of 2008. Over the years Ellen has brought joy to many and is now a public staple for gay rights.
