Note to Community- Potential Walk Out
From the Principal’s Desk:
Dear Northgate Community,
As I’m sure you’ve heard, our Homecoming Week is in full swing. Lots of mirth and merriment is being shared among the kids and staff, with tomorrow’s rally being one of the traditional highlights.
We also are attempting to work with faculty and students who are interested in participating in an nation-wide youth protest relating to climate change. While we are always looking to help students use their voices in the service of a variety of causes, we also want them in school during school hours. So that there isn’t any confusion in terms of consequences, have conversations with your kids about how we will be handling the situation:
1. Students who are in a class setting, are supervised, with a teacher, on campus, will fall into the category of “instructionally valid” time and, per usual, won’t incur an administrative consequence.
2. Students who leave their class, unsupervised, but stay on campus, will receive a mark of “Truant,” and
3. Students who leave the campus will receive both a mark of “Truant” and “Leaving Campus without permission” which will disallow for their participation in both the Homecoming football game AS WELL AS the Homecoming dance.
Obviously, our main concern is to keep our students safe and out of harm’s way. Help us spread the word so that we can follow through on this commitment. Plus, the rally should be fun. They won’t want to miss it.
In the meantime, I hope all of you are well. Please know that the school year continues to sail along nicely with a group of kids, teachers, and parents that continually inspire so many of us so often.

Conflict Managers!
Each year 16 students (8 juniors and 8 seniors) serve as Northgate Conflict Managers. They are trained in peer mediation and able to step in to support when administration sees fit. The process of becoming a Conflict Manager includes a short interview with the senior Conflict Managers, which will take place during 2nd and 3rd period in the teacher's lounge on Thursday, September 26th and Monday, September 30th. We will be interviewing 20 interested juniors and request that each student reports at the time stated on their pass to help us remain on schedule. These interviews should take about 10 minutes each.
Once selected, the Conflict Managers will have an on campus training on Friday, October 4th from 7:55am-12pm. These students should check-in with you in advance regarding their absence.
If there are any questions or concerns, please let us know. Thank you.
Kindly, Naseem Saremi, Mandy Kaur, and Kristen Bligh

Oktoberfest is coming!
Hello Fabulous Northgate Teachers and Staff,
Our Oktoberfest committee has been hard at work planning a great night out for our school community on October 5th. This is the PFC’s largest fundraiser of the year as well as a very festive evening. We are hoping for a great turnout so we are able to support all your efforts in what you do for our students every day.
We would like to offer teachers one free ticket with each ticket purchased. Just use the link to purchase a ticket for yourself, then let Ms. Sargent know if you would like to bring a free guest. We will have the beer garden flowing, games, delicious dinner catered by Bierhaus, live auction excitement, and dancing.
Please consider joining us. We appreciate how hard you work to help educate and inspire our teenagers, and understand how much you might need a beer by the end of the week:)
