Cultivating a Sense of Calm and Hope
Dear OHES Families,
I hope that this newsletter finds you and your loved ones safe during these turbulent times that we are experiencing. In times like these, it's easy to feel overwhelmed but it is important to try to stay positive for your families and for yourself. I am grateful for our teachers as they continue to plan lessons for your children. The teachers and leadership team continue to work hard to ensure that distance learning plans are updated and engaging. The teachers are increasing use of recorded messages to their students and you can expect more interactive connections shortly after our spring break. I am also appreciative for the hard work you are doing as parents to keep your children engaged with the distance learning plans!
It is essential for all of us to hold a higher perspective as we struggle with the challenges of practicing social distancing and remain isolated from family and friends. Try to recall past challenges and how your resilency and adaptability helped to manage through a difficult time.
Consider who or what inspired you recently. All of us hold those working on the frontlines during this pandemic in high regard. Perhaps you can encourage your children to write a thank you note to a health care worker, policeman or fire fighter.
We can all cultivate a sense of calm and hope during these uncertain times. Have you noticed the change in our landscape? The trees are budding and flowers are blooming. Take a walk and enjoy the beauty of nature. Connecting with friends and family through social media is comforting for all of us.
In closing, as we begin spring break I want to wish you and your families the very best. We will continue to navigate this together. I look forward to seeing the smiling faces of the OHES students in our school soon. Be well and stay safe.
Warmest regards,
Principal Scotti

Put a Poem in Your Pocket!
Poetry is particularly fun to read to children. The whimsical use of language fires up kids' imaginations. Also, if you're tired, it can be a little easier to read three poems than three chapters of a book!
Here are some links to child-friendly poetry to read aloud at home:
