Keeping Up With The Kennedy
May 3, 2020- Issue 33
Good Evening Families
Please see messages form the specialists teachers below. Also, as promised we are bringing back some of our fun activities. See the information below about our Spirit Week sponsored by the Student Council.
SPIRIT WEEK
The Student Council is hosting a “Spirit Week” beginning Monday, May 4th through Friday, May 8th. They decided that they would like to bring our community together and make our days a little brighter! They have decided on the following themes:
“Dance Move” Monday: Put on some music and practice your best dance moves!
“Take a walk” Tuesday: Get outside today for some fresh air!
“JFK Strong” Wednesday: Wear any Canton gear or green to show your school spirit! Also, color in the “JFK Strong” Pawprint and showcase in your window of your home to bring our community together!
“Stuffed Animal/Pet day” Thursday: Enjoy your pets at home or cuddle with your favorite stuffed animal!
“Crazy Hair/Hat” Friday: Make your hair wild and crazy or wear your favorite hat!
We would love to have as many students participate during this time! Please send any pictures or videos to Danielle Ripple, our parent advisor of Student Council, at danielleripple@gmail.com. She has offered to compile a slideshow of our remote learning spirit week! The slideshow will be posted in next week's update!
We cannot wait for the fun to begin!
Messages from the Specialists Teachers
Physical Education Expectations
Hi Parents.
It is the Wellness departments’ goal to have students keep moving in a variety of ways each week to help further advance their development and maintain their overall health and well being during this pandemic. Each week going forward, students will be given several fitness and PE/ skill focus options. They will be expected to complete at least 1 of the fitness options and 2 of the skill focus options. They have the entire week to get this done so please don’t stress if it is rainy and they can’t do outdoor activity a certain day. We will do our best to provide choices for activities that can be done inside as well as outside. Some will need basic equipment, but many will not need much to participate in. I would love to see how they are doing with the activities! Students can connect with me by posting on this google form link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSezv-x6GZfILQLbwXiDyMWZ9Tx5xuyaMAcJg5ctfhLy6ZRqxw/viewform?usp=sf_link
Parents and 5th graders can connect with me via email at: sasinm@cantonma.org Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns as I am here to help. Stay well.
Best Regards, Mr. Sasin
HEALTH EXPECTATIONS
Hi Kennedy kids and families! I hope you are all doing well and staying healthy and safe. I hope you have all been able to find my weekly newsletters that have been posted in your teacher’s google classrooms. If you are having trouble, please reach out to me. Now that we have moved into the next phase of online learning, it is expected that you work on Health assignments for at least 30 minutes per week. Each week, I include at least 2 or 3 options that you are expected to work on. You can submit your work via the Google Form on the newsletter (also listed here: Share your work with Mr. Beck). Parents and 5th graders can also send work via email at beckd@cantonma.org.
TRICK SHOT CHALLENGE:
Hopefully you have noticed that I am holding a school-wide trick shot challenge over the next few weeks. I’ve already received many entries from very skilled students so keep them coming! You can upload the videos via email, the google form on my newsletter, or by clicking here. I will be including a few of your videos in each newsletter beginning in a few weeks.
Please keep in touch and keep sending some pictures of what you’re up to...as long as you are smiling you are being healthy :D

Music Expectations
Hi JFK Families,
We hope you are all doing well, and we have really enjoyed seeing the photos and videos many of you have shared of your hard work and music making!
In this new phase of remote learning, there are now “Must Do” sections for the music assignments, and students are expected to participate in music each week. That said, music should be an enjoyable activity that reduces stress, not increases it! If your family is struggling to get music done for any reason, please let us know and we will work with you to make adjustments. The music activity may be done at any point during the week, so please do not worry about squeezing it in a specific time frame.

Hello JFK Families!
I miss everyone so much and I hope you are all doing well! I’ve been enjoying emails and pictures from many students. Keep them coming!
Each week, I will send out a list of art activities for you to choose from. You may choose any activity that you wish! Choose an activity that inspires you or challenges you as an artist. All students are expected to participate in a minimum of thirty minutes of art each week. Take your time and enjoy creating, you have a week to do your assignment.

Technology Expectations
To all my Hardworking JFK Families,
Hoping this message finds you all well.
Please continue to check the Technology Google Classroom or message from your classroom teacher regarding the Technology Assignments “Weekly”
I am requiring at least 10 minutes of typing for Typing Pal for Grades 2-5 using home row, good ergonomics and proper posture!
Your goals:
Grade 3-15 Words Per Minute
Grade 4-20 Words Per Minute
Grade 5-25 Words Per Minute
Posted in either the Technology Google Classroom or your Google Classroom from your Teacher, you will find a “Technology Menu” of choices or an actual “Assignment” to “Turn In” every week.
You are all using technology and I hope that you continue to make me proud by choosing the path of good digital citizens as it relates to using tech or any communication between teachers and fellow classmates!
Keep working hard. Missing all of you!

Miss Gushues's Class
Sam's family finally got their stove hooked up and he has been cooking up a storm. He helped make eggs and brownies and pasta in the past 24 hours. His new found love. He has also learned to play chess during this quarantine time. He misses his teacher Miss Gushue and the class but has learned a lot of new things that he normally would not have time for.
Layla and her sister show their love for the JFK!
Parents of Grade 5 Students
Every year we have the current 5th and 8th graders complete the recertification of residency process before the close of the year. You will see the form and letter attached. They are due by June 19, 2020.
We understand that you will not be able to submit the forms and required documentation in person this year. We have included below the acceptable ways to return your required documents to us.
By mail: Please mail your completed forms and required documents to:
Canton Public Schools
Certification of Residency: JFK
960 Washington Street
Canton, MA 02021
2. By email: Please email a scan or pictures of the completed forms and required documents to sperac@cantonma.org. Please keep in mind that the scans/pictures need to be completely legible. Free scan apps are available for smartphones that we have found very helpful!
Please note: If you are sending a lease for Category 1, please send the first page (with address and tenant information), the signed page (with both tenant and landlord signature) and a proof of payment within 60 days). Do not send your entire lease agreement. Thanks!
If you have questions regarding this process or how to submit your recertification of residency, please contact Cathy Spera (sperac@cantonma.org).
