A Principal's Perspective
This school year, there will be times when we feel as if the year is flying by and times when we feel like it will never end. I want to encourage you all to remain "focused and faithful" to your goals. A part of being "focused and faithful" is making sure you are at school every day, on time, and ready to learn. Our school wide goal is to maintain a 96% or higher attendance rate for all students.
Staff have worked extra hard to make sure that student's have everything they need to be successful. Our class sizes remain small in order to support the needs of all our students. Make sure you advocate for yourself. Ask question and don't be afraid to ask for help. No one else can care more about your success then you! You have to be your biggest cheerleader!
I look forward to celebrating all of your successes with you this year. Remember my door is always open!
Love ya!
Dean's Corner -- Discussion With The Dean
Hello and Welcome back to Renaissance. My name is Tarek Zawahri and I am the Dean of Students.
One of my major responsibilities are to make sure that all of our Renaissance students are in school daily. It is very important that our students are here on a regular basis in order to earn their credits and put themselves in a position to graduate. In order to be eligible for a waiver, a student cannot miss more than 36 days over his/her four years of high school.
All students are to be at school every day unless he/she has a legal excuse for not attending. The MSD of Warren Township’s School Board policy contains a complete list of legal excuses, which include illness, medical appointments, death in the family and participation in certain non-school activities. Failure on the part of the parent/guardian(s) to report an absence will result in the absence being classified as unexcused.
If a student begins to miss school on a regular basis, then the fowling steps will be taken:
- A phone will be made to parent/guardian
- A letter will be sent to parent/guardian requesting a meeting with the dean
- A home visit will take place
My hope is that the lines of communication between the school and families will be open and that we can work on any extenuating circumstances that may come up throughout the year.
The link below is a good article stressing the importance of school attendance and its impact on graduating from high school.

*If you student will be driving to school, they will need to give me a copy of their Drivers License, Registration, and Insurance card.

August is Health Observances and Awareness Month!
Welcome back staff and students and I am looking forward to a GRANDSPATULOUS School Year!!!
As the school year starts parents and/or guardians will receive requests to provide an updated health report for your student. Please submit as soon as possible to update our files and so that we are made aware of any changes that may affect your child's emotional and mental health stability.
Emotional health is an important part of overall health. People who are emotionally healthy are in control of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. They are able to cope with life’s challenges. They can keep problems in perspective and bounce back from setbacks. They feel good about themselves and have good relationships.
Being emotionally healthy does not mean you are happy all the time. It means you are aware of your emotions. You can deal with them, whether they are positive or negative. Emotionally healthy people still feel stress, anger, and sadness. But they know how to manage their negative feelings. They can tell when a problem is more than they can handle on their own. They also know when to seek help from their doctor.
Research shows that emotional health is a skill. There are steps you can take to improve your emotional health and be happier.
Community Resources:
I will have more information to update staff and students within the next couple of weeks. The Renaissance services are as follows;
Counseling School-Based service programs to assist with social and emotional challenges - Gallahue, Teen parenting and casework services-Marion County Health Department , College Readiness Program and other extracurricular activities offered- The Indianapolis Urban League, and many more community resources and programs to come that will promote, improve and increase social and emotional skills within our Renaissance community.

Elementary School (K-4): 8:05 am - 3:05 pm
Intermediate/Middle School (5-8): 8:55 am - 3:55 pm

Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)
At the May 15, 2019 MSD Warren School Board meeting, the board approved to implement the Community Eligibility Provision to allow all MSD Warren students to have access to free lunch in addition to free breakfast during the school year. This program is available to all students in every MSD Warren school. It is important to note that this program is not related to textbook rental. Families who need textbook rental support will still be required to complete a Textbook Rental application after July 1, 2019. More information can be found on our website.
