"The Swinging 60's"
Coca Cola Ads- 1960 vs. Now
We chose to do our 1960s project on Coca Cola because we have both seen this company grow throughout the 21st century, and we were both really interested in researching about it in the earlier years.
How Coca Cola Started
This company was started in 1886 in Atlanta by Dc. John Smith Pemberton and the business started off very slowly, selling only 9 servings a day. The company began to rapidly develop, especially in the 60's and became one of the world's leading producer of beverages.

The 1st picture is an example of Coca Cola advertisement from 2014 and the 2nd picture is an example of the vintage ads from the 60's. Coca Cola comes out with a new advertisements almost every year in the 2000's but for the entire 60's time period the ads looked the same.
How Coca Cola Advertised in The 60's
Take a moment and close your eyes, and imagine the wonderful time period of the Swinging Sixties! Do the refreshing and tempting Coca Cola ads go through your mind? The Swinging Sixties was all about fresh, new inventions and new drinks, and Coca Cola took advantage of that. Because this company was so popular in the 60's, they often showed advertisements that attracted the attention of EVERYONE. They showed things such as beautiful girls in swimsuits skipping along the beach with a Coke in hand, or the most perfect couple picnicking on lush, green grass. They also showed famous people such as Marilyn Monroe and the Beatles. Take another moment to think of how much the ads have changed to peoples liking's. They have changed greatly from the 60's to the 2000's, to crackling, fuzzy colored boxes, to broad, flat screen TV's.

How Coca Cola Advertised in The 2000's
Nowadays, the advertisements are showing Polar Bears and Penguins getting a refreshing swig and have recently added the ability to place your name on the bottles plastic cover, due to the growing amount of relationships and gifting to friends (Both are very popular). In the 60's, the ads did show celebrities and popular sports such as baseball, but this generation has moved away from that, focusing more on the person than the sport. We now show people such as Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez. The ads are still funky but more modernized.
This is the advertisement that everybody knows!!! They often show this at the movies, along with crackling ice and the fizzy beverage filling up the screen.
In the United States, the 12 ounce cans of Coca Cola were introduced. They included the image of the Coca Cola logo and signature colors (White and red) so costumers would recognize it as the same drink they had enjoyed from the old fashioned bottle.
