PSSA Information
March 31, 2021
Dear Titus Parents and Families,
This note serves to provide an update to families about PSSA testing and scheduling in our school this year. As noted in district communication earlier this month, both the U.S. Department of Education and the Pennsylvania Department of Education are requiring all school districts to administer PSSA testing for the 2020-2021 school year. The testing window has been extended so that districts can maintain compliance with their Health and Safety Plans.

Testing of Virtual Academy Students
Testing is only available in-person and on-site, and each virtual student will be scheduled to take the test in his/her/their homeschool. We remain committed to adhering to the guidelines in our district’s Health and Safety Plan. All students, including virtual students, have been assigned a bus route. Your children may take their bus to and from school on testing days. If you prefer to drive your student to and from school for testing and wish to pick them up in the middle of the day when they are finished, please let Mrs. West (lwest@cbsd.org) know in the main office. As we get closer to testing, communication will be sent regarding transportation and a detailed schedule for testing, including times.
Transportation
All students, including virtual students, have been assigned a bus route. Virtual children may take their bus to and from school on testing days.
- They can take the bus and be picked up at the end of the test session.
- They can take the bus to and from school (8:35-2:15).
- They can be driven to and from school.
Students who stay the whole day will have asynchronous instruction to be completed in the library or other designated area until dismissal. Lunch will be provided for virtual students on 6/2 and for those students that remain after the testing session has ended. Students are welcome to pack a lunch.
Parent Right to Opt-Out
Chapter 4 of Title 22 of the Pa. Code (22 Pa. Code 4.4) provides the right of parents/guardians to excuse their child from the state assessment if, upon inspection of the testing materials, they find the assessment to be in conflict with their religious beliefs. Please visit the CBSD Assessment Website for information about how to request to exclude a child from state testing. Parents requesting to opt-out their child from testing must submit a request by May 7, 2021. Please note, virtual families that completed the survey must officially opt-out via the form on the CBSD Assessment Website along with any traditional families who also wish to opt-out their child(ren) from testing this year.
If you have further questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Pustay (267-893-4501) or Mrs. Horan (267-893-4511).
Sincerely,
Mrs. Bridget M. Pustay

Thank You Volunteers
April 18th through April 24th is designated as National Volunteer Appreciation Week. It is a time to celebrate volunteers, recognize their impact, and encourage volunteerism in our schools and community.
Although this year has looked a little different than typical school years, the Home & School Association wants to thank the many parents and caregivers who volunteer their time each year to serve the students and families at Titus. We could not do everything we do without your hard-work and dedication – thank you!
Social Emotional Learning
Student Services April Spark
Bringing career education and development to the elementary grades is one of the primary goals of the district’s K-12 Guidance Plan and of these Sparks articles. Recently, students in Central Bucks took a huge step toward this by the introduction of Smart Futures to students in grades 3 through 6. Smart Futures is an online career development and portfolio platform which focuses on grade-specific activities for students and manages the outcomes of the activities in a portfolio which meets the required PA Career Readiness Standards. With just introducing SF this spring to our elementary students, they are not required to complete all the available activities, but they will begin the goal of developing a career plan. Beginning next fall, students in grades K – 2 will also begin using SF.
SF allows students to discover what they like to do, learn about careers they might want to investigate and even how to develop a budget. To learn more about SF, watch this short video and you can always ask your child to log onto SF to see what they are learning.
