The Carleton Chronicle
A weekly update from Carleton Middle School
Congrats
This past week several of Carleton's finest were recognized at our board meeting. First, the work of Ms. Blum and Ms. Gjelaj and the entire Ecology Club has been remarkable this year. They have tackled so many neat and inspiring projects to help our Earth (and Carleton) become greener and learned about the importance of charitable giving. They earned the distinction of becoming an Evergreen School (the highest possible) for their efforts to reduce our "footprint" for the greater good.
Next, Ms. Lantto has supported countless students not only in the daily band setting but also provides opportunities for students to perform at Solo and Ensemble Festival. This opportunity allows our students to receive crucial feedback from an adjudicator. It just so happens that many of our band students might not read this memo until early Saturday morning because they are on a school trip to Toronto to perform, receive a clinic, and sight-see.
Lastly, Ms. Wyrybkowski has been hard at work with our art students. If you had a chance to visit the Sterling Heights Senior Center, you know the amazing arts pieces that were on display. Three of our students, Cadence, Mary, and Rebecca were recognized at the Board Meeting for their outstanding creations.
Bravo everyone!
Vaping
Parents,
Please take a moment and read the following article about the possible effects of vaping for adolescents. Knowledge is power. The devices the students are able to obtain are looking more and more like "everyday" devices such as: flash drives, pens, and key chains/flash lights. Due to their size, students can often keep them in their pockets, underwear, or other concealed areas without much detection.

Dress Code Reminders
As the weather gets warmer, please remind your son or daughter to REACH for their best and be "Resourceful" and "Accountable" for the clothes they choose to wear to school.
Below are a few things to consider as we wrap up the school year:
- Resourceful - Plan on bringing a lighter coat or sweatshirt to start the day and peel off layers as the weather warms up throughout the day.
- Find alternative ways to correct any dress code violations besides calling home and interrupting your learning time. Ask a friend, visit your gym locker, or plan ahead to avoid this scenario.
Accountable - We are at the point in the school year where everyone knows the expectations and they have been clear all year long. Let's not try and "push the envelope" by having ear buds in during hall passing or having your hood up in the hallways. Be accountable for your actions!
Thank you for your support.
