SPHS NEWSLETTER
NOVEMBER 2016
Principal's Message
Last week, we had our most successful parent-teacher conferences since I arrived at SPHS in 2013. 29.7% of our students had a parent come in to chat with their teachers. And I am very excited about that level of communication. However, I think we can do an even better job of meeting your needs as parents and guardians. In the coming months, I will be sending out a survey about parent-teacher conferences, asking for your feedback about how we can continue to improve the experience for students, parents and teachers alike. I hope you will consider sharing your feedback.
Trimester transition work is progressing nicely. One of the discussions we have been having is about expanding course offerings. In the trimester, since there will be extra opportunity for students to take classes, we want to have new classes for students to take. ;-)
In the last month, the various high school departments have proposed 22 new classes! We'll be surveying student interest shortly to help us determine which of those new courses to place in the course offerings for next year. It is an exciting time for all of us at SPHS!
Have a wonderful November!

Marching Band Travels to St. Louis
The Sauk Prairie High School Marching Band recently concluded it's 2016 campaign with a trip to St. Louis, MO to compete in a Bands of America Super Regional contest. There were 65 bands from around the country competing for top honors in visual and musical execution and general effect. It was the first time that Sauk Prairie had participated in a national level competition for our marching band. While we did not place high, we did meet all of our season goals and got to see some great bands while there. It was a wonderful season full of growth and achievement for our marching band this year and St. Louis was a great way to finish the season on a high note!
Parents/Guardians of Juniors:
You and your student are cordially invited and encouraged to participate in a Grade 11 Individual Planning Conference with your student's counselor. This is not a traditional parent-teacher conference or time to discuss discipline issues. This is an exciting opportunity to focus on your student’s current talents, interests and aptitudes, educational and career development, and to obtain information for post secondary planning. Conferences will generally last 30 minutes. Your involvement in this conference is necessary and very important.
Conferences can be scheduled beginning at 7:30 am through the school day. We will do our best to accommodate requests outside of this time frame.
If it would be more convenient, we also have the option of phone conferencing.
Counselors divide students by last name: Owen Murphy works with students A-K and Tonya Lassanske works with students L-Z.
To schedule your appointment please contact Alison Snyder, the counseling secretary, at 643-5910 or alison.snyder@saukprairieschools.org
NHS Induction
Students from Sauk Prairie High School were inducted into membership of the Jacob Barth Chapter of the National Honor Society at an evening candle lighting ceremony at 7:00 p.m. in the River Arts Center on Monday, October 17th. Members were selected by the faculty and approved by a faculty council for meeting high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. To be eligible for membership consideration, students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50. Members of the Junior and Senior classes were considered for selection.
The National Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for high school students. Chapters exist in three-fourths of the nation’s high schools, and since 1921, millions of students have been selected for membership. Thousands of dollars in scholarships have been awarded to senior members since 1945 by the sponsoring organization, the National Association of Secondary Principals.
