Mission Statement
News from the Principal
Dear SJN Families,
On Friday April 21, students in pre-k 3 through second grade will participate in a learning program from Goldfish Swim School – Bubbles’ Water Safety Program. This water safety and drowning prevention program is based on the principles taught by the United States Swim School Association and the Safer 3 Water Safety Foundation.
The program is a structured, fun 20-minute lesson focusing on the following goals:
- Introduction to the concept of water safety
- Educating children about the importance of water safety
- Helping children learn safety methods and avoid potential dangers in and around near water
- Educating children about ways to handle water crisis situations
- Provide materials and information to your children and you in an effort to prevent water-related accidents
We hope that this fun and educational program reinforces the water-safety objectives your child is learning. Please contact us if you have questions about the program or about water safety for your family. As always, please contact me should you have questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Natalie Johnson
Principal

Care & Share Deadline
The end of the month of April brings the deadline for our Care & Share submissions for the current school year. Please be certain to log any hours that have not been recorded by Friday, April 28. Each hour that your family is unable to complete is subject to a $20.00 fee payable to St. John Nepomuk Catholic School. I have included some helpful notes and guidelines for Care & Share below. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to contact me or our Care & Share Coordinator, Angie McPherson by clicking HERE. Use this LINK to post Care & Share submissions online.
Care & Share Program Information
Each year, families are asked to give 30 hours of your time and talent to our school family. Only 15 hours are required for single parents. If your family chooses not to donate the minimum service hours, a $20 fee will be charged for each hour not completed. Teachers and staff who have children attending St. John Nepomuk are not asked to give service hours, but are still encouraged to support all school activities.
The C&S program year starts on May 1, and ends on April 30. No hours can be carried over to the next year. Those who have been unable to complete their hours may pay the C&S fees any time during the school year. Those who are returning next fall will be required to pay any unpaid C&S fees at registration. Any families not returning in the fall should pay their fees before the last day of classes.
Up to 10 hours of the total 30 hours (5 hours for those only required to give 15) may come from time donated in service to the parish. Parish activities eligible for the C&S program are: religious education teacher, serving drinks at the parish picnic, elected membership on the parish council, liturgy board, finance committee, and property committee. No other parish activities may be counted toward C&S hours unless approved by the principal.
Any member of your family may do volunteer work toward the service requirement. Please make sure that the hours are recorded under your Family name in order to get the credit.

Falcon 5K & Fun Run
A small group of people in the SJN community have been busy working behind the scenes to plan a new school and church event to occur in September. We are so excited to announce our first ever Falcon 5K & Fun Run!
Our school, grades Pre-K (3) through 8th grade, takes great pride in its reputation for academic excellence and values the important role our students play in leading us into the future. This academic excellence must be partnered with a firm foundation and commitment to health and wellness for our students. This will not only benefit students now, but it will have a profound impact for future generations of our community. We believe that hosting such an event will help foster healthy lifestyles and unite our community in doing so, in taking steps to achieve this common goal. Our event will fund new, cleaner water systems for our school & parish as well as any members it serves while on SJN’s campus. We also hope, by making these changes, we illustrate our commitment to being stewards of creation and more environmentally responsible by offering a solution to our aging water systems and installing water bottle filling stations to encourage the use of refill bottles over plastic water bottles.
Our event will take place on the morning of September 30, 2017, and we are so excited to start and finish these races on our campus! We will host both a 5K and 1-mile fun run. We are also excited to offer activities for families as well as a pancake breakfast for participants. We are currently seeking businesses and individuals to serve as sponsors for this event. If you are interesting in serving as a sponsor, the sponsorship form is below. Watch for updates as registration information will be released in the near future!
All of this would be possible without the help of so many! We have a wonderful team of SJN School parents and parishioners that are leading the planning efforts! I would like to send a very special thank you to Kari Dannemiller for serving as the event chairperson! If you'd like more information or are interested in volunteering on the planning committee contact falcon5k@sjnok.org.

SCRIP News!
Here is how it works…
Gift cards are purchased by the school at a pre-determined discount. You buy those retailer gift cards at face value, then SJN splits the discount with you. You can then use the money towards lunches or tuition.
Here’s an example:
$200 Sprouts card will earn you $5
$200 Wal-mart will earn you $1.25
It may not seem like much, but it adds up! Review your budget and purchase Scrip cards from SJN to earn money at the places you normally spend money.
