Because God Helps Me, I Can Be Brave
This week we're teaching kids from 1 Samuel 17. Most of us know the story of David & Goliath. I think an important thing to point out at the beginning of this story is the difference between bravery & courage!
Courage is the ability to confront pain, danger, or intimidation despite feeling fear.
Bravery is the ability to confront pain, danger, or intimidation without any fear.
Saul and his men originally had courage when going to fight Goliath but they lost it. The fear became overwhelming. The presence of the Lord casts out fear. David saw an injustice, that the Philistines were defying the armies of the living God! Even though people didn't believe in him, even though others were fearful for him, David had already seen the Lord's preparation in his waiting place. The Lord had rescued him from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear. David knew that God helps him!
As he stepped into battle, he wasn't relying on his own strength! "I come against you in the name of the God of Israel." David was surrounded with the Lord's help and that's what made him brave!
Remember, as we're walking through this series we're focusing on being united in prayer over 2 things: what the heart of God is like and how we (us and kids) can be people after God's heart.
Gods Heart- God Helps Me
My Heart- A Heart After God Is Brave
This week let's pray for these things:
- Father, show me YOUR HEART! Remind me that you are my source of help. You're my ever present help in trouble. Nothing is too hard for you. You are a shield for me, and You are near to those who call on You.
- Give me a heart that's brave. Free me from any fear. I know that there is no fear in love and perfect love casts out all fear. Let me sit in your presence and trust you to expel fear from me. Remind me of all the ways you've helped me in the past. Help me walk with bravery into what you have set before me because I trust you!
