Training on Pre-K Essentials 1 & 7
Training for the K-3 ISD Coaching Network
What will we be focusing on?
The Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy, Prekindergarten (Essentials) identifies a small set of research-supported instructional literacy practices that improve children’s literacy outcomes in preschool. The Essentials training aligns with developmentally appropriate practices, Michigan Core Knowledge and Core Competencies for Early Care and Education Workforce, and the State Board of Education Standards of Quality for Prekindergarten.
This training opportunity is focused on supporting the transition between Prekindergarten and Kindergarten, by introducing Essentials K-3 coaches to two Prekindergarten Essentials that are not typically trained on for K-3, Essential 1: Intentional use of literacy artifacts in dramatic play and throughout the classroom, and Essential 7: Extended conversations. This training will provide an overview of the Essentials, allow colleagues to dig deeper into the components of the Essentials and strengthen facilitation and training skills on the Essentials.
Participants will:
- Deepen understanding of Essential Practices 1 & 7 in the Pre-K Essential Instructional Practices in Literacy.
- Learn and share strategies for application of Essentials 1 & 7 in the Pre-K Essential Instructional Practices in Literacy.
- Network with colleagues.
Featured Speakers this week: Chad Waldron, Kathryn Roberts, and Meghan Block
