Our #AwesomeArmour focus this month: #AttitudeofGratitude
https://twitter.com/ArmourHeightsPS/status/1141651188938629120
To our Graduates (in the picture below) we wish you all the best in your bright future!
"Oh, the places you'll go!"
From the Office
How is it possible that we are getting set for the last week of the 2018-19 school year? It's a great time to reflect and share an #attitudeofgratitude!
School life is a complex mosaic of partnerships and cooperation, of volunteerism and effort and lastly of caring and dedication. This community of care-givers and staff embody this mosaic in the most beautiful assortment of colour in support of our students. We thank the caring adults in students' lives who consistently reach out, who are accessible on tricky days and who we can celebrate with in moments when students make choices or take action that make us all proud. These partnerships are an integral part of #AwesomeArmour and we thank you for working with us!
To our Grads and their families we look forward to celebrating with you this week and for all of our students who will return or join us for the first time in September, know that we will be so excited to have you back ready to explore the changes that will take place around the school over the summer. The year ahead will no doubt be an exciting time as we anticipate the transition to our new school - we will continue to look for opportunities to connect with our friends from King George PS, preparing for the time when we are all together in the East City School.
It was terrific to see so many people join us this week for our "Doors Open" event this past week! We hope the opportunity to return or even visit for the first time, spaces around the school that your child will regularly experience, proved to be supportive of feeling positive and excited about joining us at Armour Heights this fall. If you have questions at all about your child's transition to school with us this fall, please don't hesitate to call our school office and we will do the best to support and respond!
This week is a short but busy one with Primary Play Day, Grade 8 Graduation, our Grade 6/7 year end trip to the Science Centre, the Sod Turning Ceremony and lastly our final assembly of the year on Thursday when our AAAC's awards will be handed out. On Friday, staff will come together to meet but school will be out for summer for our students!
Please take a moment to review the message located in this PPW regarding tentative student placements for next year. As enrollment continues to change, so might class assignments and student placements. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
As I sign off for this school year I hope it is apparent how proud I am to have the opportunity to serve the #AwesomeArmour community. I hope everyone enjoys a healthy and safe summer and that your weeks are filled with memory making moments with loved ones!
Have a wonderful summer,
Ms. McIlmoyle Parsons

If your child is in Grade 8, please mark Tuesday, June 25th at 6:00 pm on your calendars! . Parents, relatives and friends are invited to join the graduates on this special occasion. To help us with the planning process, we are asking each graduate to identify the number of guests who will attend the ceremony by completing and returning the form sent home this past Thursday by June 13th.
During the morning of June 25th, students will take a KPR bus to TASS for the grad rehearsal, then return to Armour Heights to receive their report cards and participate in their clap out at approximately 11:30 am. Trent Child Care will be our School Aged Care Program Provider in 2019-20
There has been a development in the options available for school age programs at Armour Heights for this fall. The City of Peterborough has shared with families that it will no longer operate the King George school age program for children at the Armour Heights location as originally planned for the Fall of 2019. If you are seeking before and/or after school child care at Armour Heights in 2019 - 20, please reach out to Trent Child Care as they will now be the sole provider of school aged before and/or after care at our site. If you have not already registered with Trent Child Care, you can do so by contacting the Administration Office at 705 - 775-0045.

Our #AttitudeOfGratitude at #AwesomeArmour
Nutrition/Snack/Breakfast Program
This year, our Nutrition/Snack Program would not have been possible without the leadership of our weekly volunteers, including Alice Orpen, Marnie Cox, Wafa Chamseddine and Jane McIlmoyle, whom all assisted in preparing the weekly menu, prepping veggies and fruit and creating interesting snack items. They also prep the dry snack bags and sandwiches for our students every day. A big shout out also to Ms. Youkevich who regularly packed the cooler bags each morning and all of our Support Staff who were always ready to jump in when our volunteers needed to be away.
If you have even one hour each week and would be interested in volunteering with next year’s Nutrition Program, please contact Ms. McIlmoyle Parsons. In the fall, we hope to continue to provide this robust and much needed nutrition program for our students.
Armour Students Love Their Pizza & Milk!
Many of our students thoroughly enjoy ordering pizza on Mondays! Our Pizza Days would not be possible without volunteer assistance and this year we once again extend a HUGE thank you to Karen McKnight for all of her organization.
I’d like to extend an appreciation to Mrs. Dervishi for her efforts making sure our students who order milk receive it each day. We welcome any feedback you have about these food/beverage choices. All are healthy and a welcome change from sandwiches!
Kitchen Kit Bags
A very heartfelt and special thank you is extended to Karen McKnight, the co-ordinator for the Kitchen Kit Bags at Armour Heights and King George. Mrs. McKnight has once again done an incredible job co-ordinating healthy food to go home with some of our students on weekends. Mrs. McKnight also lead a fundraiser this past fall that had a massive impact on the program viability. Her commitment, time and energy is always appreciated and we thank her for making this program possible. Thanks also to the Amour Heights School Council for their financial donation to help support this important program. You make a difference!
School Council Wraps up for 2018-19
The efforts of our 2018-19 School Council has been appreciated and we look forward to welcoming many new community members and families to our Council in the year ahead. We will be holding elections on September 25th (6:00 pm) at our first Council meeting of the year. Joining Council meetings is a fantastic way to be involved in our school community and while we do need people to join the executive, we welcome people to join us at our monthly meetings even if they don't serve as part of the executive - all are welcome! Reminders about our Council meetings are tweeted out and highlighted in our Parent Peek at the Week and Council Meeting Minutes are held in the library of the Armour Heights School Council Edsby Group.
Early in the new year, be sure to watch for details about our "Fresh from the Farm" fundraiser -thanks again to Andrea Plumley for her support with this initiative!
We hope you will join us in the fall!
Please return any school library books!
Please take a look for any school library books you may have and send them in as soon as possible. It is time to begin to take inventory and check up on all our resources. We appreciate your assistance making sure we get all books back.
We also encourage students and their families to check out the Public Library this summer! Keep reading!
Classroom Placements for September
The slip in your child’s report card envelope indicates the tentative classroom for the next year. Please note that all students have been carefully placed into classes by staff teams, and these class lists have also been reviewed by school administration following the criteria set out in previous newsletters.
In some cases, because the teacher hiring process may not be complete, it may be impossible to name the teacher. If this is the case, parents are welcome to call the school during the last week of August, or watch for updates on our school twitter account: @ArmourHeightsPS.
Enrollment on the first day of school in September may affect prior decisions about class organization. Student enrollment often fluctuates over the summer, and there is a good chance that we might need to re-organize our classes and the placement of students in the Fall due to the fluctuations of growing as a community. It is important that parents understand that unanticipated staff changes over the summer, or a need to reorganize during the first month of school to balance class sizes, may require a revision to your child’s classroom.

Let's Be Safe - Watch the label!
A friendly reminder about ensuring no products with nuts of any kind come to school. Mango products are associated with these types of allergies so we ask for consideration with avoiding these to school as well! We have a number of students with severe allergies, and we deeply appreciate your support in ensuring our school remains a healthy and safe environment for all.

Take Care with Concussions!
A concussion is a brain injury that causes changes in how the brain functions. Children and youth’s brains are still developing and protecting them is important, especially during sports activities.
To help prevent concussions:
Choose equipment that fits correctly,
Master the basic skills for the sport,
Know the rules of your sports,
Show good sportsmanship.
If you think your child/youth has a concussion, get it checked out by a Health Care Practitioner! There are resources for parents, caregivers, teachers, coaches and athletes at:
