Classroom Happenings

Thank you for the ways you support our learning in room 319! Your kids are a joy to work with.

In math last week many students concluded their work with numerical expressions and ordered pairs. Your child has also mastered the order of operations and has become familiar with graphing ordered pairs on a coordinate plane.

In reading last week we developed student and teacher expectations for our different learning centers. Students will now flow with ease between centers focused vocabulary building, direct teacher instruction, partner reading, independent reading, and team work (cooperative learning). The ability to go from station to station is imperative so that I may focus on specific skills (fluency, comprehension, application/discussion) with specific learning groups.

In writing we finished our reports on explorers. In just a few days they should be up on the walls in the hall for your reading pleasure.

Conferences -- February 5th and 6th

Parent - teacher conferences will take place on Thursday, February 5th and Friday, February 6th. There will be no school for students on these days. Families with more than one child at West Homer Elementary will find that their conferences scheduled back to back. I will be sending out reminders of conference times on Monday.

If you do not have a conference time scheduled or if you can not make your scheduled time, please contact me as soon as possible.

Fundraising - We NEED Your HELP!!

Thank you for your support with raising funds to pay for our Ageya trip. Although we have made great progress, we are not quite done.

It’s time to clean out the closets, kitchen, garage and bring your unwanted but still in good shape items in for our annual indoor garage sale! If you don’t want to rent space and man a booth yourself the fifth grade is delighted to take your donations.

The fifth grade classes will be manning a booth for our indoor garage sale on Saturday, Jan. 24th to offset costs of our trip to Ageya last October.

We are looking for a few parents who would be able to help us at this event. In addition we’d like several families to donate homemade treats for our bake sale during this event. Individually wrapped items or items that can be eaten on the go are best. Please send the baked items already wrapped to school with your child on the 23rd or deliver them to WHE before 9:30 the morning of the 24th. We’ll also need a few parents to help with set up/take down and managing our booth that day. If you can volunteer please let us know.
