Third Nine Weeks Spelling

Spelling test grading will look slightly different this 9 weeks. The students have had the second nine weeks to practice the editing “test”. Now, students can earn additional points with their editing test. Each sentence is worth 4 points (total of 8). Therefore, if your child gets all 10 spelling words correct (10 points each), both challenge words correct (1 point each), and both sentences correct (4 points each), your child can receive a grand total of 110. During our grammar lessons thus far, we’ve continuously focused on starting sentences with uppercase letters, proper spacing between each word, correct spelling, and correct punctuation (period, question mark, or exclamation point). The editing test allows your child to apply their learning without additional support or reminders. We’ll continue to focus on those grammar concepts as well as additional concepts this school year.

Guided Reading and Mid-year Assessments

First Grade will complete their mid-year literacy assessments this week. Therefore, our Guided Reading groups will look a little different. We will continue to use readers theater to work with your child on their fluency skill. Please continue to read books from home, practice spelling, and do math homework using the ideas page in your child’s homework journal. Thank you for all of your continued support and dedication to the students!

Please remember to put your child's name on all jackets. The lost and found is growing daily, if your child is missing something please remind them to check the lost and found.

Practice Counting Coins

Using real coins, please have your child identify, write the value of each coin and count like and mixed coins, up to $1.00. Because we use plastic coins at school, any practice at home using real coins would be beneficial.

Karate Belt Math

We have been working on using various strategies to solve addition math facts. The blue belt flash cards are addition facts with a sum up to 20. Below you will find the Blue Belt cards so you can practice at home.

I hope you enjoy helping your student prepare for this at home. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
