The Compass Notes
January 8th, 2022
A Compass Note:
Welcome Back and Happy New Year! We are looking forward to the exciting learning opportunities and activities that the second semester holds in store. As we continue to embark on our Leader in Me journey, we wanted to share with you some more information about the Five Paradigms within the Leader in Me and how they transfer/correlate with families:
Paradigm of Leadership:
Everyone can be a leader.
Parents and children have opportunities for shared leadership.
Not: Leadership is for the few. Parents are in charge of all the decisions.
Paradigm of Potential:
Everyone has genius.
We celebrate our differences and focus on each other’s strengths.
Not: A few people in our family are gifted.
Paradigm of Change:
All change starts with me.
Not: To improve my family they need to change. I can’t make a difference.
Paradigm of Motivation:
Parents empower children to lead their own learning.
Not: Parents control and direct a child’s learning.
Paradigm of Education:
Develop the whole person.
Not: Only help children achieve academically.

- Indoor Recess will be held when the temperature or heat index is above 95 degrees Fahrenheit
- Indoor Recess will be held when the temperature or wind chill is below 20 degrees Fahrenheit
Welcome Aboard!
"My name is Samantha Jolly and I am a recent graduate of WGU with a bachelors in Elementary Education. I am excited to spend second semester with the kindergarten kiddos. Before pursuing my degree I taught pre-kindergarten for 8 years. It will be fun to continue working with the littles. I have been married to my husband Josh for 6 years, we have 3 children, Addison is 11, Harper is 9 and Gunner is 3 (almost 4). The girls are here at Compass, in 5th and 3rd grade, and Gunner will join in 2023. I am especially thrilled to continue my journey at Compass after my Paraprofessional and student teaching journeys in the building. As a PCHS graduate I can safely say ONCE A PIRATE, ALWAYS A PIRATE!!"
"My name is Rachel Eckles and I have been married to my husband Bill for 13 years in March. We have 2 boys - Dylan (12) and Austin (9). We moved to Smithville, MO on December 17th, 2020. We love the small town community and the land. I graduated from MO State University with my bachelor's in Child and Family Development. I earned my masters in Social Work from UMKC. I am passionate about working with children and families. I am coming from working at UHTMC in the Labor and Delivery unit and Family Health Clinic. I am honored for the opportunity to transition my social work skills to a school setting. My oldest son plays soccer with Alliance Soccer Club and my youngest is currently playing on a basketball team that I coach with Smithville Parks & Rec. We have 2 dogs, Max (Chihuahua and Jack Russell mix) and Molly (Beagle). I look forward to the opportunity to work with students, staff, and families at Compass!"
