Survival Tips for New (and not so new) Teachers
"Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend to them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again." ~ Og Mandino
Try Something New
Youth Radio was founded in 1993 as a way for San Francisco Bay Area youth to outwardly express their feelings based on their experiences being surrounded by violence and also as a means to provide their perspectives in a world that rarely takes notice of the young. From its humble beginnings, it has been transformed into a platform for students to share, collaborate and learn. Lessons on how to make a podcast, get an interview and even discussions on the advantages of a high school diploma versus a GED are all free to use by students and educators. This is a great resource to gain an insight into what today's youth are thinking and supporting.
Starbucks, Anyone?
Vocaroo is easy to use voice recording tool. In the classroom, use it to have students reflect, rehearse and present, then upload content to Google Classroom, share via email or embed in a portfolio. Share messages with your students when you will be absent or send reminders out via Twitter. The uses are endless. For this week's Starbucks Challenge, make a recording of something to share out with your students or a recording on how you might use this in the classroom or with your role at the school. Share your recording with me via email by Sunday night at the latest.
