News and Information for the Week of September 27th

Start With Hello Week - Coming Soon

In fall of each year, EC students and staff participate in a week-long series of activities and events organized by Mrs. Jennifer Morgan, EC Guidance counselor. The events and activities are meant to reduce social isolation and increase connectedness in our school. This week-long focus called Start With Hello, developed by the Sandy Hook Promise, is aligned with our efforts to foster greater student social-emotional skills and strategies while reducing isolation.

According to the Start With Hello website, "Loneliness is the overwhelming feeling of being left out and social isolation is not having frequent interactions with friends. Young people who feel this way may pull away from society, struggle with learning and social development, or choose to hurt themselves or others. Due to COVID-19, all students can empathize with the feelings of isolation due to physical and social distancing. Start With Hello is an important social and emotional learning program to reintroduce students to the power of connecting and helping one another."

News from Our School Nurse

The Chester County Health Department continues to recommend that schools use the symptom monitoring chart (below) as a guide in determining if a student exhibit symptoms that mimic COVID. It is this chart that is used as a reference in deciding if a child remains in school or needs to be picked up. This chart is helpful for families in determining if a child should attend school or not due to illness. If a family decides to keep their child home from school due to illness, it's important that each family communicate to us their child's symptoms. This information can be left on the confidential attendance line at (610) 469-5688. Finally, please do not give your child medication and send them to school if they have symptoms that mimic COVID. When in doubt, call us at 610-469-5103! We are here to assist you and we are all in this together. Together, we can help keep everyone in our community healthy and safe.

Important Calendar Reminder

There is no school for all OJRSD students on Monday, October 11th. All teaching staff will be participating in a day of professional development activities.

School resumes for students on Tuesday, October 12th.

Harm/Threat Assessment Response Team

OJRSD has developed response protocols in event of a threat of harm either to self (such as suicide ideation) or to another individual. Each OJRSD school has a threat assessment team that includes the school psychologist, building principal, guidance counselor, and mental health clinicians. The team can respond quickly in the event of a threat of harm. The response protocols have been created in conjunction with the District's Pupil Service Department and industry leading experts. Once the threat has been investigated, support to the student is provided, and the school works closely with the family to provide support and resources. While threats are not commonplace at EC, it is helpful to know that we have a way to quickly respond.

OJR Pink Out Game

The Owen J. Roberts Pick Out Game will be held at Wildcat Stadium on Friday, October 1. Once again, shirts will be sold to raise money for Unite For Her. Below is the link for the Pink Out Shirt Online Store. There will be no school delivery. Shirts will need to be shipped directly to your homes or picked up at Bob Hilbert Sportswear in Boyertown, PA.
