A Word From Mr. Jerrell
Dear Bain Families,
It’s hard to believe that it’s already December! Our 2nd quarter progress reports will be coming home soon. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your student’s progress, please feel free to reach out directly to your child’s teacher.
Every night, we request that our students read for 20-30 minutes each night. Even more, we request that our families read together. As a parent myself, one of my goals with my children is for them to see me reading in my spare time (the little bit that I have!). Part of modeling good reading habits is modeling the intentional use of your time to sit and read (fiction or non-fiction) for pleasure or for information.
In a recent Charlotte Observer article, the non-profit organization READ Charlotte encouraged parents to begin what they called active reading with their children. Active reading is more than reading to your students. Active reading encourages parents to ask questions about what happens next, act out difficult vocabulary words, or ask simple comprehension questions. Free workshops are available through the Read Charlotte Website.
As always, please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns. We value the opportunity to work together with our community to challenge and prepare all students for future success.
Sincerely,
Michael Jerrell
Principal

Spelling Bee Winners!
The 2018 Bain Spelling Bee was held on Monday, November 19th. Charlize Ramirez was our winner and Alexandra Ray was the runner-up. The winning word was diminutive. Charlize will compete in the Southeast Learning Community Spelling Bee on Thursday, December 6th at Jay M. Robinson Middle School. Good luck to Charlize!
Third grade Winter Music Program
Please mark your calendars for the Third Grade Winter Music Program. It will be on Thursday, December 13th at 6:30 pm. Third graders will meet their classroom teacher in the media center at 6:15 pm. Please have your child wear nice clothes in holiday colors. It will be very warm on the stage, so please do not wear heavy fabrics like sweaters and velvet. Some ideas for the boys are golf, polo, or short sleeve collar shirts with nice pants and shoes, and short sleeve dresses, or tops with a skirt or nice pants for the girls. We hope to see you there!!
Fill The Box
The 21st Global committee would like to thank teachers and parents for their support during the Fill the Box campaign. We collected more than 50 shoe boxes filled to the rim with joy for children. Thank you to Mrs. Pereira for delivering the boxes. Great Job everyone!
