Science 7 Newsletter
Hicksville Middle School
Welcome to Room 237!
I hope this email finds you well and enjoying the busy holiday season! In this email you will find major topics of study and assignments for the upcoming weeks. I have listed a date to be assigned and/or due date for each, but please note these may change due to school events or need for further review.
Grades for this week?
- Google Classroom Nitrogen Cycle Question: In an effort to help students practice responding to short answer questions, each will be expected to respond to a posted question on the nitrogen cycle using complete sentences and an "I know this because" statement. This question will be posted Monday (12/7) and will be due by 8:00AM Tuesday (12/8). Students should use study hall and HomeBase time to complete this response. Notebook points will be awarded for this question.
- Midterm Notebook Check: On Tuesday (12/8), students will count their notebook points earned for the first half of Quarter 2, which will include all points earned throughout the Fruitvale project. These points will be entered into PowerSchool and appear on the midterm report sent home later this week.
- Earth's Systems Quiz 3: On Wednesday (12/9), students will complete a quiz covering the atmosphere, carbon cycle, and nitrogen cycle notes studied over the last week. This quiz will build on the two completed in the previous weeks.
- Climate Change Zaption: On Thursday (12/10), students will be assigned a Zaption assignment, posted to Google Classroom, to complete for Friday (12/11). This assignment will help to develop our data based exploration of climate change and how it relates to the carbon and nitrogen cycles. Notebook points will be awarded for this assignment.
Midterm Grades: Midterm grades will be collected on Wednesday (12/9) and sent home later in the week. Additionally, those students currently earning a failing or near failing (D-) grade in Science 7 will receive a letter and grade report to bring home on Monday. These letters are intended to communicate grade concerns and serve as a means to set realistic goals for improvement. My hope is always to communicate concerns early, so improvement can be made by the end of the quarter.
