School Dental Program
NSW Health is working with St Marys South Public Schools to offer free dental check-ups and preventive care to students as part of a school-based mobile dental program.
The program involves a mobile dental team making scheduled visits to our school. During the first appointment a dental check-up and preventive care package will be provided, subject to parental consent.
NSW Health prioritises the health, well-being and safety of students. The program will utilise all available information provided by NSW Health, the Australian Government and the World Health Organisation (WHO) in relation to COVID-19. The dental staff have implemented and reinforced a number of additional, proactive health and safety measures to ensure they can continue to provide our students with the best and safest experience possible.
Parents/guardians who want their child to receive care are advised to:
1. Read all the information provided in the packages sent home.
2. Carefully complete the consent forms
3. Return the consent forms to the school as soon as possible

When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children.
Parents and carers can help foster positive attendance habits by:
- helping their child learn the importance of punctuality and routine
- ensuring their child arrives on time from the start of the school day, ready to participate in learning
- reducing disruption to learning where possible, by planning any necessary appointments outside of school time
- promptly communicating any absence to the school (within 7 days of the first day of any absence)
- working with the school to encourage and support regular attendance.
Information for parents provides further information about compulsory school attendance.

NAIDOC Week Celebrations
St Marys South Public School will be celebrating NAIDOC week (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) on Thursday 24th June from 9 am – 1 pm.
During the day, students will be participating in a variety of creative and practical Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander activities around this year’s theme of Heal Country.
A smoking ceremony will be held in the morning that will be performed by a special guest. A free BBQ will be provided at lunchtime to all students.
On this day students will have the opportunity to learn and celebrate the history of the Aboriginal people through art, dance and storytelling.
Students and staff are encouraged to participate in the day by wearing red, black or yellow mufti-clothes.
Mrs Hembling
Dear Parents and Carers,
My name is Mrs Hembling and I am the Relieving Assistant Principal on K-2. I have been teaching for 8 years and have had experience teaching students from grades Kindergarten to Year 6 in different settings. I am excited to be part of the St Marys South Public School team of dedicated teachers and I look forward to working with students and building on all the wonderful learning opportunities and experiences already occurring at the school.
Thank you to all the children, staff and parents for making me feel welcome.
Mrs Hartley
Dear Parents and Carers,
My name is Mrs Hartley. For Terms 3 and 4, I will be the Stage Two team leader and class teacher of 4 Jade, whilst Mrs Bell is busy caring for her newborn baby.
I have many years of experience teaching students from Years K-6 and I am really looking forward to working with students and staff to create amazing learning experiences.
I am excited to meet you all, so when you see me around the school, please say hello.
The Big Dig: Stage 2 Excursion
On Tuesday Week 8, Stage 2 went to ‘The Big Dig Archaeological Education Centre’ in The Rocks Sydney. We learnt all about the lives of convicts and early settlers who lived in The Rocks in the 1800s. We also learnt about the traditional custodians of the land, the Gadigal people. Students were thrilled to take part in a simulated archaeological dig. They excavated lots of interesting artefacts from the time.
Library News: New Book Corner
Our library is always obtaining new books to inspire our student’s pursuit of their interests, should that be reading for enjoyment or to find out about their favourite topics or the new trends that are happening in the world.
In the ‘New Book Corner,’ this week we are highlighting the new picture book Olive Written by Edwina Wyatt and Illustrated by Lucia.
Olive is a story that follows Lilah and how she deals with the grief of losing her beloved cat.
Lilah struggles with dealing with the loss of her cat and is grief-stricken to see the beauty of the olive tree that was planted to remember her beloved cat.
This is a beautifully written story that could be read for the enjoyment of Lilah’s journey or to help other children who are dealing with the grief of losing a beloved pet.
Olive is a well-written story with beautiful illustrations that explore the different stages of grief. I give this book 4 stars.
