December Newsletter
Skyview High School
Dear Storm families,
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” – Maya Angelou
As we make our way to the Winter Holiday break, I hope you will each take a moment to read and reflect the words of Maya Angelou. We are each given amazing talents and gifts that we often overlook due to external causes or expectations. As I walk through the halls and spaces of Storm Headquarters, I am amazed by the talents and gifts of our students. Scientists, artists, poets, mathematicians are abound throughout.
The New Year will provide a new beginning for each of us to make the very best “me”. My hope is that we can all take hold of the belief that we are in control of our own destinies, challenge ourselves to push boundaries and continue to achieve excellence each day. This is the legacy of Skyview High School.
I hope each and every one of you enjoys the Winter Break time and comes back to us with a renewed passion to be the best “me” that we can be.
Thank you,
Jim Gray

Dear Families of SHS
Did you know December is intoxicated driving awareness month?
*Car crashes are the No. 1 killer of teens in the U.S.
*Most teen crashes occur on the weekends, when teens are too busy having fun to pay attention to their driving.
*Eight teens die every day in DUI crashes.
Parents and family have the greatest influence over a teen’s substance use. Studies show teens who live in households with strong boundaries and rules surrounding substance use are less likely to use illicit substances.
Talk to your teen and talk often!
If you have any questions please feel free to contact our Prevention/Intervention Specialist, Donna Holland, at 360-313-1300 or by email Donna.Holland@vansd.org
