Parenting with Purpose Events, Feb. 8 and Feb. 9

Weekday Preschool Parents are invited to two events offered as part of the "Parenting with a Purpose" event series featuring child psychologist, author, speaker and syndicated columnist John Rosemond.

Refreshments from 5:00-5:30 p.m.

John Rosemond begins promptly at 5:30 p.m.

In this often humorous yet provocative and thought-provoking seminar, family psychologist John Rosemond describes the contemporary parenting conundrum in clear, compelling terms and then describes a practical, tested solution. He teaches how to motivate maximum child compliance, no matter the setting, by using “leadership speech.” Meal will be provided at no charge by Mama's Boy.

A special brunch at 9:30 a.m. with John Rosemond

Have you become swept up in the hustle-bustle of the "Good Mommy Club"? The symptoms include experiencing the raising of children as a stressful, anxiety- and

perhaps even guilt-ridden process that never lets up in its uber-demands on your time,

energy, and emotions. If you recognize yourself in that description, then John Rosemond has the commonsense antidote!

Presented by the AFUMC Children's Council.

There is no childcare at these events.

There is no cost.

Registration Update for 2015-16

Priority registration for currently enrolled families and church members took place in January. Class assignment notifications will be made to families who have registered no later than Friday, February 6.

A few slots remain in some classes. These will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Please encourage friends who may be interested to contact the Preschool regarding specific availability.

"Love is in the Air" Variety Show, March 1 at 5 pm

All preschool families are invited to attend "Love is in the Air" at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, as the Wesleyan Youth Choir hosts our church's annual Variety Show! Warm and fuzzy feelings will abound as talented musical groups of all ages sing about love! Songs you know and love will be performed by friends and familiar faces- it's a night you won't want to miss!

Preschoolers in the 3 and 4 year old classes have been learning songs of love in Joyful Noise with Mrs. Sarah and are invited to sing with the 3's (Cherubs) and 4's (Sonshine) in the children’s choirs in this special tradition. Be on the lookout for a flyer to come home soon with more information.

No tickets or reservations are required; a love offering will be taken to help offset the cost of the WYC's Summer Choir Tour to St. Louis. We hope to see you there!

Summer Camp: Save these dates!

Weekday Preschool will offer three weeks of Summer Camp:

May 18-22

June 1-5 (this week corresponds with AFUMC's Music & Arts Week for 1st thru 4th graders)

June 8-12

Camps operate Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. No lunch bunch is offered.

Age Requirements:

Youngest: Children who were 2 on or before Dec. 31, 2014

Oldest: Children who just completed Kindergarten.

There must be at least 8 children of a certain age registered to make a separate class for that age group. Otherwise, some ages may be combined. Camp registration, pricing and theme details will be available soon. A special camp email will go out the week of February 16. Stay tuned!

Chapel with Mrs. Linsey

We continue to talk about the Fruit of the Spirit! Instead of a life where our selfish ways guide our choices or a life governed by strict adherence to rigid laws or codes or conduct, we can accept the gifts of the Spirit. These simple ways of living mark the Christian life.

The Fruit of the Spirit can be found in Paul's letter to the Galatians in chapter 5: "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." So far, we have learned about Solomon and his great patience as he built the Temple. We discovered kindness in the story of the Good Samaritan. February will bring more Bible stories where God's good gifts shine!
