How do you get the Zika Virus?

The Zika Virus is a Virus spread through the bite of an infected Aedes misquitio. You can also get it through sexual conact, if the male has been bitten he can spread it to the female which causes her child to maybe have a birth defect. "The most common symptoms of the Zika Virus are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes)". "In 1952, the first human cases of Zika were detected and since then, outbreaks of Zika have been reported in tropical Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Islands"." Zika outbreaks have probably occurred in many locations"."Before 2007, at least 14 cases of Zika had been documented, although other cases were likely to have occurred and were not reported". Because the symptoms of Zika are similar to those of many other diseases, many cases may not have been recognized.

The spreading of the Zika Virus

The Zika Virus was first discovered in 1947 and was named after the Zika forest in Uganda. The Zika has reached 47 countries so far. " The Aedes mosquitoes are all over South America, that’s perfect to infect the population". (Pbs.org) Brazil is the main concern for the spreading of the Zika virus. With the Olympics this summer, the virus is sure to spread many new places.

How can you prevent yourself from the Zika Virus?

"Stay in places with air conditioning or places that use window and door screens to keep mosquitoes outside". (foxnews.com) All we can really do is try to stay away from South America and stay inside. "There is no vaccine to prevent or medicine to treat the Zika virus".(cdc.gov) If you have the Zika virus it is best if you stay away from others and stay were you are. You don’t want to travel and take the virus with you. " Scientists think a type of genetically modified mosquito could help stop the march of mosquito."(huffpost.com) If these mosquitos can stop the virus, we could save millions of lives.
