In language arts:
This week we will continue our journey into "The Thrill Of Horror". The Tell-Tale Heart, by Edgar Allan Poe, seemed to catch everyone's attention on Friday. We will begin the week by analyzing this tale,as well as exploring some other tales of terror such as : The Raven, and The Monkey's Paw.
The grades for literary terms quiz have been entered. It was very apparent who focused on mastering these, and who did not...The only opportunity for retesting on this terms will be for students who complete the "Request to Retest" form completely, and make arrangements to complete this by the end of this week. Scores that fell below a 70% are the only students eligible for this.
We will be getting back to out "Roots" this week with fore, pre, and post. This unit was introduced, and then interrupted by the storm,etc...I will re-post the StudyStack link for these, so it is easier to locate in Google classroom. The quiz will probably be on this Thursday.
Book 1 of the Independent (Choice) Reading for 2nd quarter is due by this Friday, October 29th. There are already a number of students who have already completed this, and are onto Book 2 !Take a minute to touch base with your student to see how they are coming...most should be ready to test before Wednesday. Just a quick reminder that students have been asked to bring their books to school with them daily this quarter. We will focus part of our school time to this valuable practice, but this will not exclude the need for them to be reading at home.
TweenTribune is an assignment is due each Friday afternoon by 3pm. If your child does not have access to the internet at home, please ask them to take advantage of coming down to my room before school, or ask me to print out some articles for them. This is great practice, and an easy way to boost their reading grades! Unfortunately, many students are not working on this...If your student is one of these, please check out some of the really interesting articles with them.
Have a great week!
Social Studies- Mr. Salser
This week we are working on the comprehensive review for unit 3 for the American Revolution. The unit 3 test is scheduled fo Thursday Oct. 27th and the students received their study guides this past Friday.
Math- Mrs. McKinney
Math – We will continue to work on exponents Monday and Tuesday this week and the students will have homework each night. Wednesday we should be learning about Scientific Notation and Thursday and Friday the students will be performing operations with Scientific Notation. Scientific notation operations will be real life ideas as the students calculate the number of Zika viruses that can be carried by a mosquito and compare the size of different mosquito born viruses and he students will create a PSA that explains their findings.
Science- Mrs. Allen
This week in Science, we will begin exploration of energy! We finished up matter last Friday with our big mastery assessment. I was very pleased with the great majority of those scores. These kids really tried very hard on that test, and some of them absolutely amazed me! We will be completing two labs this week, so please have a word with you child about being safe in the lab, as there has been horseplay in the past. Let’s keep pressing on strong through this race to the GA Milestone! I know everyone can do it! J
