BSD School Closure Updates
Tuesday, March 17, 2020
A message from Superintendent Leavell
Good evening BSD Families:
I am writing this evening to check in after day 2 of the school closure. I certainly understand the stress and hardship the coronavirus pandemic has caused. While life as we know it has changed for now, the Bremerton School District is still committed to serving you and our students to the best of our ability.
We are committed to keeping you and our community informed as this ever-changing landscape in public education evolves. Our top priorities initially are providing:
- Food service to all students
- Childcare in partnership with our community providers for healthcare professionals, first responders and those in need
- Learning resources for families
Priority #1 – Feeding our students
Breakfast and lunch service began today. We will provide all children age 18 and under (or currently-enrolled students up to age 21) a Grab-n-Go breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday from now until April 24th.
Each school will have meals available for pickup between 10 am and noon. We will also be delivering meals to all the elementary school bus route stops (secondary students and siblings included too).
Please see our website for additional information, including the bus routes and delivery schedules.
Priority #2 – Provide Childcare to healthcare professionals, first responders and school district families
Childcare is available at Armin Jahr Elementary School & West Hills STEM Academy through the Y KIDS program. They are open Monday through Friday, 6 am – 6 pm. Please call 360-813-1813 for details and program information. We want to thank our partners at the YMCA and Y Kids for their commitment to our families and our community.
There are several community-based childcare/preschool programs available as well.
Priority #3 – Learning resources for families
Learning resources and enrichment activities for students of all grades will be available online no later than Wednesday, March 18th.
We recognize that not every family has access to an electronic device and the internet. Below is a Chromebook request form to help us determine who is in need so we can deploy devices to those families. If your student(s) needs a Chromebook, please complete the request (link below) by Thursday at 5 p.m. More details to come!
Thank you for your patience and support!
Thank you for your patience as we learn more about how to operate in our temporary new normal. Your student(s) are our #1 concern. Please continue to check the our website, Facebook page and watch for email updates.
Take good care and be well!
Sincerely,
Dr. Aaron Leavell
Superintendent
