Potassium Iodine letter Please see information and letter below.
Potassium Iodine Letter
Dear parents/guardians:
In the event of an emergency at the nuclear power plant during the school day, Calvert County Health Department has provided your child’s school with potassium iodide (KI) tablets. KI tablets are taken to protect the thyroid in such an emergency.
Your child will receive the recommended dosage of KI only if we are directed by the state or local health officials in the event of a radiation release.
If you do not want your child to receive KI or if your child is allergic to iodide, you must complete the attached form and return it to the school nurse.
Contact Nurse White at (443) 550-9202 with any questions.
Cough Drops
Cough drops:
Cough drops may be kept in the nurse’s office if they are provided to the nurse in their original package and with written permission from the parent/guardian. This is only for students experiencing minor cough/cold symptoms and will not exceed 3 days past the date of parental permission.
