Wamogo Regional High School E-News
November 2, 2018
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I am very pleased to announce that we will be implementing a new program at Wamogo in our effort to strengthen our school spirit and positive climate. This program is called Wamogo United and was developed by students and staff at Wamogo.
Wamogo United is designed to improve school climate by introducing a rotation of weekly opportunities. Students and staff will engage in topical group discussions with peers, staff, and guest speakers, participate in team building activities with their class, and choose from a number of fun "Adulting 101" workshops related to functional life skills applicable to life after Wamogo.
After examining the details of our school calendar, we have identified Thursday as the best day of the week for Wamogo United. Click this link to access a revised version of our daily bell schedule that includes as slightly extended WIT on Thursday when Wamogo United will occur.
We believe this will be a valuable addition to our programming at Wamogo and look forward to hearing your feedback on the program as the year progresses.
Sincerely,
Sabin Loveland
Principal
Dismissal Procedures
Dismissal for an Ill Student
Students that feel ill during school hours need to visit the nurse. If the nurse determines that the student is ill enough to go home, the nurse will contact the student's parent/guardian. If you receive notification from your student that they feel unwell, please refrain from picking your student up from school until the nurse has made an assessment.Early Dismissal
Students that are being picked up early from school must have a note from a parent/ guardian. The note should contain the following information:
Date
Student First and Last Name
Student Grade
Time of Dismissal
Name of Person Picking the Student Up
Parent/ Guardian Signature
Students should bring the note to the Main Office after morning announcements and they will receive a pass to return to the Main Office at the dismissal time indicated on the note. Students must be signed out by the designated person picking up the student. Photo ID is required of the person signing the student out.
If your student is absent or late to school, please call the Main Office at 860-567-7410 prior to 8:00 a.m. If applicable, provide the office with a medical note upon your student's return to school.
Bus Notes
Bus notes are required if a student is riding a different bus. Students should bring bus notes to the Main Office after morning announcements for approval. Please note that Region 6 students are not permitted to take an out of district bus per bus company policy.
Wamogo FFA Members Earn Silver and Gold at Nationals!
Members of the Wamogo FFA participated in two career development events at the 91st National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN on October 24-27, 2018. Students Sarah Lounsbury, Emma Sonatti, Brooke Healy, Tony Cianciolo, Jordan Cavallo and Courtney Korner earned a Silver Award in the Parliamentary Procedure contest. This event included a test on parliamentary law, meeting minutes, a team problem solving activity, and an 11 minute meeting demonstration. During the demonstration the team had to debate a total of 20 times and complete 10 parliamentary motions/abilities.
“It was fascinating to witness our students compete at the National level,” said Sabin Loveland, Principal of Wamogo. “Their outstanding performance provides even more evidence of the quality of our Wamogo AgSci program.”
In addition, members Victoria Ross, Alexandra Leclerc, Jacob Brown, and Hannah Moskowitz competed in the Veterinary Science CDE. The team earned a Gold Award and Victoria Ross placed 6th individually, earning her a scholarship from National FFA. The contest is designed to develop technical knowledge and demonstrate practical skills in the veterinary science field. Students perform clinical procedures and handling and restraint practicums, identify breeds, equipment, and parasites, calculate medication dosages and other math scenarios, problem solve using knowledge of current industry issues, individually and as a team, and complete a general knowledge exam.
“We could not be more proud of the career and leadership skills that our students demonstrated at the National Convention,” said Chris Brittain, Director of Agricultural Science.
