Masks Optional at Sycamore Drive!
SD ECLC June 9, 2021
Please read the statement below from Superintendent of Schools
To the Hazlet School District: In light of Governor Murphy's comments and Tweet of June 7, 2021-- beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, June 9, mask-wearing will be optional for all students and staff over the final eleven days of school in order to address potential health concerns and to ensure the safety of all students and staff during these final hot summer days of school. The only exception will be at HMS and RHS as students will still be required to wear masks when they change classes, since the hallways are full between learning blocks. At all other times, wearing a mask will be optional. Plexiglass will remain in place, as will our practice of wiping down keyboards, socially distancing, recording temperatures upon arrival to school, and a committed disinfecting of all equipment overnight by our custodians in order to continue to prioritize the health & safety of our constituents. The options of continuing to wear a mask or to log-on for virtual instruction will certainly remain in place as well.
Our schools are air-conditioned and we continue to support the wearing of masks by all staff and students who are comfortable doing so though we also want to provide an option for students who may have challenges keeping their faces covered the entire time in school. A significant number of our staff has been vaccinated and the option remains for those who have not received a vaccination to make an appointment for that purpose. Additionally, the District has not recorded a new case of Covid since May 18 so we are certainly approaching a return to normalcy. As a result, and consistent with the Governor’s comments, our schools will follow the above modifications to the mask mandate for the remainder of this school year.
Thank you,
Dr. Scott Ridley
