Learning. Growing. Collaborating & Achieving @KrumHighSchool

January 27, 2019

Happy New Year, KHS Family!

As we embark upon 2019, we are filled with great anticipation for the future. During the month of January, we celebrated many leaders and leadership activities within our school and community. January 21st was the national observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. May his legacy, leadership, and gallant crusade serve as an excellent example of overcoming challenges for today’s generation.

January is also, School Board Appreciation Month. If you see one of these seven leaders at one of our community or district events, please take a moment to offer gratitude. We are thankful for the countless hours they graciously donate in order to help our school district experience success. The decisions they make today, ensure a positive future for our students and community.

This spring our students' mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills will be evaluated via End of Course Exams. Our students should be confident in knowing that we are equipping them with every necessary tool they will need for success. Just as our students practice skills to be the best in competitive events, our students must prepare for academic success. Homework assignments foster necessary cognitive skill development to prepare students for college and career success.

As we move into February, our students are involved in a multitude of activities and are making the final push before EOC's and AP testing later this spring. We wish all of them the best of luck in all of their chosen endeavors. It's important that you know the hard work and love you are pouring into your children at home is reflected each day at school. Parenting is hard work, and we recognize your dedication. Our staff has the opportunity to witness your hard work exemplified through the actions of our young men and women every day.

As you are aware, the KISD Public Information Officer, Taylor Poston, has started a district-wide weekly newsletter. Thus, the KHS newsletter will no longer be distributed weekly. We hope you will continue to check on our website or call if you have any questions about the latest happenings. We also make daily announcements for students and email them as well.

The KHS faculty and staff members are looking forward to great accomplishments in 2019. We appreciate your support, and we are committed to tackling future challenges with fervor. As partners in your child’s education, please do not hesitate to contact us if we can ever be of service to you. Krum is a special place because of invested parents, students, teachers, staff and community who work together for success.

Go Bobcats!

Welcome to our new Assistant Principal!

KHS is excited to welcome Mr. Kenneth Anderson to the administrative team. Mr. Anderson is in his 27th year of education and has served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and Director of Secondary Services at the district level. We are proud to have his expertise on our team.

We asked Mr. Anderson a few questions, to share with our community so that you can gain a little insight about him. When you see him at one of many events, please extend a big Bobcat welcome.

Why did you choose to become an educator?

  • It was engineered in my soul. I love helping kids; and it helps to come from a family of educators. Dad was a business teacher and coach, my mom was a secretary for many schools, and my brother is a teacher and a coach.

What advice would you give your 16 year old self?

  • Be honest, do the right things, and if it would question your grandma - don't do it.

Why are you excited to be in Krum?

  • Love the small town environment. I heard the kids are great and I wanted to be a part of it. In 1987, I played against Krum in basketball and I respected the actions of the students then.

Who was your favorite teacher in school and Why?

  • Mom: although she was never a certified teacher in school, she taught me the instincts and traits I have today. She molded me into the man I am today.

  • Wife: Joy
  • Kids: Kade, Chad, Lindsey, Charissa, Matt, Michelle
  • Grandkids: Madison, McKenzie, Olive, Beckett, Hunter, Ethan, Georgie, Jackson, Preston, Hailey, Braelyn, and #12 on the way.

Fun Facts:

  • Favorite Book: Life is Good - Story of George Dawson
  • Music/Band: Aerosmith, Alice in Chains, Beattles
  • Movie: Gladiator
  • Restaurant: Carrabbas
  • Sports Team: Dallas Stars, Dallas Mavericks, Texas Rangers
