Galatas Fall Fundraiser!

This year Galatas is partnering with Fun Run Time for the Fall Fundraiser. Our goal is to raise $45,000, which will go toward tutoring, instructional materials and supplies, technology and educational enrichment.

Our Fall Fundraiser kicked off today with a student pep-rally! From Friday, October 18 through Wednesday, October 30 students will be raising money that will go to improving our students’ education.

You should have received an email from Galatas PTO this week with your child’s donation page. Support Galatas Elementary by:

**Making your donation TODAY!

**Sharing your child’s donation page with family and friends through email, Facebook, or text using the icons on the donation page.

**Sending spare change to school. Classes that fill up their change jar by October 30, will earn 30 minutes of EXTRA RECESS!

Plan to join us at Cattail Park on Wednesday, October 30, during your child’s PE time as we celebrate the Fall Fundraiser with a Pumpkin Patch Dash!

If you have any questions, please contact Emily Holtgrieve and Kimberly White at galatasfallfundraiser@gmail.com.

YEARBOOK COVER CONTEST

Students will have a chance to help us create the cover of this year’s Galatas yearbook! The theme this year will be “U.S.S. Springetti”! Some ideas could include ocean voyage, sea and undersea adventures, cruise ships, marine life, beaches, islands, etc...

Guidelines:

**Entries should be original student artwork, and may be done with marker, pastels, paint,

watercolors, etc…

**Maximum size should be 8.5”X11” and must be a portrait (vertical) layout.

**Artwork should feature a Greyhound!

**Artist’s name and section number should be on the back of the artwork.

**No need to include our school name or the year...those will be printed on the yearbook by the publisher.

**All submissions must be received by Friday, November 1.

Please contact galatasyearbook@gmail.com with any questions.

LOST AND FOUND

Please have your students check for any lost items (shirts, sweaters, water bottles, hair bows, lunch boxes, etc...) on the Lost and Found rack, located in the Cafeteria. Parents may stop by to check the Lost and Found during Lunch times or before 8:00 a.m.

Please remember to label all items that students bring to school. If an item has a name in it, it is returned to the student’s classroom.

The last day to check for lost items will be Monday, October 21. Any unclaimed, unlabeled items still in Lost and Found on Tuesday, October 22, will be donated.

BoxTops for Education

It's time to turn in your Box Tops! Our first BoxTops collection date will be October 25, and students will turn them in to their teachers. The grade level with the most BoxTops will be named the BoxTops Champion. The winning grade level with the most BoxTops will earn treats for their teachers, and one class will win the Grand Prize!

Nominations for Gifted and Talented Testing

Nominations are now open for the Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until February, nominations are open at this time. Nominations can be made by parents and/or teachers. It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT scores have arrived before nominating their child, because CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. If you are interested in nominating your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher at conferences. Nominations will be accepted through December 18. If your child has already qualified for Gifted and Talented services in some content areas but not all, you must nominate them again if you would like for them to try to qualify in additional areas. Students must take the full battery of tests as specific subject areas cannot be isolated for testing purposes.

You may request a nomination form from the Assistant Principal, Candace Mathis (cdmathis@conroeisd.net). You may also find the form, as well as other information on the program here .

Galatas Gifted and Talented Parent Information Session

If you are interested in learning about the Conroe ISD Gifted and Talented nomination process, please join the Galatas Administration Team for an informational meeting on Wednesday, October 23 at 10:00 a.m. in the Activity Room.

The winners will receive a ribbon and special letter of recognition from Farmer’s Insurance. Winning artwork with be displayed in the Farmer’s Insurance office located at 8105 Kuykendahl Rd., St. 100 behind the Alden Bridge Shopping Center.

The PTO would like to thank Dr. Keith Wagner and Farmers Insurance for sponsoring the Art Contest and for their generous financial support.

2019 CISD Bond Information

The November 5th Bond Referendum contains a second proposition, Proposition B, which includes the installation of artificial turf on the fields used by Oak Ridge, The Woodlands College Park, Conroe, Caney Creek and The Woodlands High School. This will allow the 15,000+ students to use the fields for their activities on a more consistent basis.

To view more information about Proposition B and learn more about the November 2019 Bond Election, please visit www.conroeisd.net/bond or visit CISD's Facebook page at @CISDBond2019.
