Meet Suarlin Alvarado
Hi there, I am Suarlin Alexis Alvarado Amira. I currently live with my mom and a brother and a sister in our town; San Martin Jilotepeque. My father works far away from us. We usually see him on the weekends when he gets home. My poor parents have had very hard economical problems. We just moved to a place where my parents are building our new house. My mom works making tortillas in the marketplace, but she doesn't earn enough to pay for my school. Most of our free time we all help to do chores with my mom. I really want to become an accountant and I am working very hard to get good grades and be a successful student. I just want to be able to help my parents and siblings in the future.

Fulton Mental Health Screening will take place at FMS on Wednesday, March 7th during advisory time.
The Fulton Public School’s District School Mental Health Team will be conducting a voluntary district-wide mental health screenings this past fall/spring. The purpose of the screening is to identify social-emotional supports to help all Fulton students be successful. This screening is being supported by the Shared Services for School Mental Health (S3MH) Project funded by the Missouri Foundation for Health. All information collected through the screening will be kept confidential. Screening tools are not diagnostic. Rather, screening data will be used to identify students who may benefit from additional assessment or supports for emotional or behavioral problems. As part of the screening process, teachers in all buildings will complete a brief assessment of students’ social, academic, and emotional behavior. Students in the middle and high school will also complete a brief behavioral self-assessment. Participation in the screening is completely voluntary: parents or guardians may notify their building administrator if they do not want their child to participate, and middle/ high school students can also opt out themselves.
Why screen? Fulton School District is committed to helping all students be successful at school. The district already provides a variety of emotional and behavioral supports. Conducting a social-emotional screening gives Fulton School District one more tool to best serve young people in this community. Screening data can help identify students who may need additional help and allows for earlier identification of possible problems. The screening also provides a snapshot of current social-emotional needs in the district to inform ongoing improvement efforts.
What screeners will be used? Teachers in all buildings will complete the Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener (SAEBERS) for students in their classroom. Teachers at Fulton Education Center will complete the Devereux Early Childhood Assessment (DECA) for FPS preschool students in their classroom. Students in 5th – 12th grades may complete a self-report measure called the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ).
Is the screening mandatory? No. Parents/guardians can request for their child not to participate in the screening process. Middle and high school students can also opt out of completing the self-report tool.
When and where will the screening take place? Teachers will complete the screeners online in early March. Data from the screeners will be saved in a secure file.
How long does the screening take? It is estimated that teachers will spend about 20-35 minutes completing the screening tool for students in their classroom. The self-report measure takes about 5 minutes for young people to complete.
How much does it cost? The screening will be completed at no cost to the Fulton School District with the support of the Shared Services for School Mental Health (S3MH) Project.
Where will the data be stored? Teachers and youth will complete the screeners online, so data from the screeners will also be saved in a secure file.
Who will have access to the results? Screening results will be used to identify Fulton students who may benefit from further assessment or supports. Technical assistance will be provided by trained staff supported through the S3MH Grant. School personnel, including teachers, school counselors, teachers, and/or staff, will have access to student data. Results will be de-identified and shared more broadly at the district level to inform ongoing planning and improvement efforts
If you would prefer your student not take part in the screener please contact the School Counseling office. Contact options are listed below.

6th grade band will be working on sheet music as well as lines out of the book. The students will also be receiving sheet music for their May concert. The kids are going to be playing The Circle Of Life from the Lion King and a Star Wars Medley. Things are getting exciting up in 6th grade!
The next concert will take place March 13 at the high school and it is our Parade of Bands concert. All bands 6-12 will be performing in the same concert. This concert will take place at Fulton High School. There will also be a basket raffle and a fundraiser dinner that takes place that evening. It looks like the dinner will be a walking taco/taco bar set up this year.
Delivery date for Cherry dale will be the night of the Parade of Bands (March 13) in the High School commons.
It seems to be that time of year where things break and some repairs need to be made. If you do not have a repair plan through Lincoln County Music of BISCO, Jerry's Instrument Repair in Columbia is a great place to take your instruments.
If students need to redo assignments and recordings they will have the opportunity to retake the recording either at home or during class. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Practice for the weekend:
#141 - 151
7th Grade Band:
7th grade band will be working on their sheet music for the next concert as well as our method book that we started last semester. Please make sure that you are encouraging your student to pay attention during class, and to not be talking during rehearsal. Hearing it from you and me will speak volumes.
Students that are preparing for solos to take to Central Methodist University music festival in March will be assigned lesson times over the next two months. It is very important that I hear these students play at least twice prior to the festival. I am sending home and email and putting ALL information on google classroom as well. Please let me know if you have any questions.

We are working on more performance opportunities for this semester and I am very excited to see what these groups can do.

News From the Art Room:
6th Grade:
We have had some pretty short weeks lately here at FMS, and feel we have had to rush a few projects in sixth grade due to this, but this group completely rocks, as well as the whole class of 6th grade. This week we will be moving into our watercolor unit as we finalize the torn Paper Animals. Look for the objectives next week.
7th Grade:
Students are still working on their “Old Barns, and I have pushed them beyond their limits on these, and hope to get these on the walls starting next week. They are all so talented and this project has really brought that out of them. Even students who doubted their abilities have really shined. It’s a great project to see this happening.
8th Grade:
We are finalizing our Coat of Arms and should be moving into visual storytelling by next week, so I will keep you posted and put objectives out for this project next week.
Students have been doing a great job with expectations and work ethic the last few weeks, and I am super impressed with the turn. Parents please keep reinforcing them and talking with them at home. I have been really enjoyed getting to know these students and building great relationships with them.
If you have any questions or concerns as always please don’t hesitate in contacting me.
Artfully Yours,
Mr Chapman
