Civano Community School
5 February 2021
Parent Teacher Conferences February 11 and 12!
Conferences will only be held at the teacher's or parent's request via Zoom. We have had the benefit this year to be in regular contact with most families due to the format of remote learning. If both teachers and parents feel that the student is progressing and there are no concerns, a conference is not necessary.
If your child's teacher requests to meet with you, you will be contacted by the end of the day, Monday, February 8, 2021. A Zoom link will be shared with you on or before Weds., Feb 10; in person conferences will not be held.
If a child's family wishes to request a Zoom conference, please contact your child's teacher to set up an appointment. A Zoom link will be shared with you on or before Weds., Feb. 10; in person conferences will not be held.
*Civano Talent Show Update*

Hello Civano Families!
I know it took some time to get the show to you, but we had some serious tech issues with it to get it off the ground and ready for you to ENJOY! We have now learned what we can and cannot do for our upcoming talent showcase in April. Therefore, this time we NEED more submissions from ALL of YOU!
There are 5 specific MUSIC & DRAMA areas for you to choose from for our second talent showcase. You can send a video from 1 area, or many areas. It is up to you. All videos MUST be sent in MP4 format and pictures in JPEG format to be accepted and work correctly. All 5 context areas for you to choose from are as follows:
- “Just for Laughs Jokes” – They must be clean, FUN, and less than 30 seconds long.
- “Tik Tok Time” – Submit a re-enactment of your favorite Tik Tok by you. It must be safe and entertaining. It cannot be longer than 15 seconds.
- Music Moments – These can be singing solos or in groups, instrument playing, dancing, or related somehow to music, even a gaming talent with music is acceptable. However, they can be no longer than 90 seconds.
- Mini-Skit Minutes – They can be a scene from a mini-skit you write, find online, and act out with your classmates or family. They can involve no more than 2-3 people and be no longer than 2-3 minutes. Class mini skits are also welcome. We will be doing a few in our MUSIC & DRAMA classes, but encourage them from your individual classes as well, if time permits. Again, they must be school appropriate and enjoyable to watch.
- Scenario 1 liners – These scenarios and 1 word, or one 1 line statements will take place and be recorded in our Music & Drama classes during school hours on Tuesdays.
Also, your family must agree that this video can be shared on social media (i.e. The Friends FaceBook page or via link) so we can share it beyond Schoology.
Your deadline for submissions is April 1, 2021. There will be NO late submissions accepted. We want to get this show put together with AWESOME submissions from you and produced quickly from me with a FUNTASTIC show for ALL!
Finally, we also have our school play, “Game On” coming your way. Our date is yet to be finalized, due to all the changes around us at this time. When it is safe and our students are prepared, we will update you. All our students’ songs and parts can be found in their specific Music & Drama class Schoology link. Please practice at home when you can with your student. If you have any questions, just ask. THANK YOU for your support of our MUSIC & DRAMA program at Civano! I am PROUD of each of my students and APPRECIATE their talents!
On with the Show,

Arizona Tax Credits
Dear Civano Families & Friends,
We are writing to ask for your continued support with an Arizona Tax Credit contribution. These tax credit contributions are how we fund our Arts program at Civano!
We are asking each Civano family to contribute at least $400 (or $200 for families with individual filers) and to reach out to three other Arizona tax payers and ask them to contribute their public school tax credits to our school. Almost 80% of households in Arizona do NOT have school-age children. You likely have friends or relatives in this situation. Often taxpayers in those households don’t know about the tax credit program or they forget to make the contribution. We urgently need your help to educate these taxpayers and encourage them to give to Civano Community School.
About Public School Tax Credits: If you owe taxes to the state of Arizona, your contribution will offset what you owe dollar-for-dollar. If you give more than what you owe, you’ll get the extra back as a tax refund. It’s really an amazing opportunity! While none of us enjoy paying taxes, with tax credits you can know that at least some of your tax dollars go directly to your child’s school. Here’s how it works
:
Couples filing jointly may take a credit of up to $400 and individuals up to $200.
Contribute online https://vailtaxcredits.org or via check in the school office.
Giving online? Please select “Greatest Need” at the bottom of the page and when directed to choose a school, select “Civano Community School”.
Public school tax credit gifts for the 2020 tax year may be made right up to April 15, 2021.
How Civano Uses Tax Credits: Greatest-Needs tax credit contributions fund
Specials -- Art, Drama/Music
Artists-in-Residence programs (like previous year’s drumming and movement)
Outdoor education programs and field trips (Ironwood Tree Experience, 8th grade backpacking trip) and so much more.
Civano wouldn’t be the school we love without these important programs! Thank you for helping us rise to the challenge!
Sincerely,
The Staff and Students of Civano Community School
P/S -- You can help by sharing the Tax Credit Contribution page with your AZ friends and family or by handing them a contribution form for mailing in or dropping off in the office. You can download the form HERE.
