Placerita Jr. High School - May 15, 2022
This Week at Placerita 5.15.22 / Esta semana en Placerita 5.15.22
Welcome everyone including our future Miners too! Here is what is happening this week.
We have two weeks and three days of school remaining before it is time for summer.
This week we have two big events. Tomorrow night (May 16th) we have our 8th grade awards night. If your student is involved, they received an invitation last week and had practice last Thursday. Congratulations to all that have had great achievement throughout their Jr. High years. The awards ceremony is at the Hart Auditorium at 7:00 PM.
This Thursday we will have our annual City Track and Field event at COC. We are so proud of all our students that are a part of our team. Different events will be going on all day with free admission at the COC Cougar Stadium. The first event starts at 9:45 and the first race starts at 10:00 AM. Placerita will be defending our championships for multiple back-to-back years.
Yes… Summer Camp is back again this summer for our current 7th graders. It is a great alternative to Summer School. There are enrichment activities as well as solid teaching in English and Math in a unique fun environment. Space is limited in Camp so if you think this would be a good fit for your student have them contact their counselor to talk about enrollment options. Space is limited so have them check on that early this week.
Just a quick reminder that we wish to keep our students safe especially during pick up time in the afternoon so please only pick up in the carpool lane either at the front or back of the school. If you pick up in the parking lot it puts our students in a less safe environment with cars moving through the lot in different directions at different speeds. Thanks for your help with keeping students safe!
That’s it for tonight. Have a great week.
Mr. Turner

Sr. Turner

Upcoming Sixth Grade Activities / Próximas actividades de sexto grado
Greetings sixth grade families!
This is a quiet week for 6th grade activities again; however, there may be an option for your 6th grader for Summer Camp if you have a current 7th grader that may be attending. We have a very few spots that we could allow a 6th grader to attend if they have an older sibling that is coming. Have your 7th grader talk to their counselor about the possibility. I will share the schedule and the course of the day next week.

Students are required to be wearing their IDs all the time they are at school.
There are several reasons that each student is required to wear their IDs during school each day. School Check-in each morning, identification for safety purposes and lunch purchases are a few of the reasons that students will need to have their personal IDs on them at all times just like last year. They will not be required during PE or during time that students are participating in activities where there would be a safety concern like in wood shop.

Hello Placerita Families! We have some very exciting and important news for our community.
The new Student Care Line for Placerita will be broadened to include mental health and wellness concerns. If you are struggling or know someone who is struggling, the Student Care Line will make early intervention possible, allowing for small problems to be handled before they become big problems.
If you are a student, parent, or community member with a concern that needs attention from an administrator at Placerita please text us here. You can send a text message to (661) 282-7522. All text messages received will be forwarded to our former Text-A-Tip line. We now have a new reporting system for our students and their families to use to share a concern about another student's well-being. This reporting system is called the Student Care Line.
Over the last several years, the William S. Hart Union High School District has placed an emphasis on student wellness. Knowing that a student who feels emotionally supported is more successful, the District set out to open Wellness Centers on each of our campuses, with the first of those opening in August of 2019. Now the District is looking to expand this effort even further by taking the existing Text-A-Tip line and re-branding it as the new Student Care Line, providing a more comprehensive function.
Text-A-Tip has been used by students, staff and families to report something out of the ordinary. With the goal being “If you see something, say something"; Text-A-Tip was there to report if someone was wanting to hurt themselves or others, or even if there was the possibility of someone committing a crime.
The new Student Care Line will be broadened to include mental health and wellness concerns. If you are struggling or know someone who is struggling, the Student Care Line will make early intervention possible, allowing for small problems to be handled before they become big problems. Cause for concern might be indicated by:
Trouble controlling emotions
Withdrawal from friends and usual activities
Feelings of rejection or solitude
Feeling constantly disrespected
Frequent loss of temper
Increased risk-taking behavior
Talk of suicide or loss of hope
Self-harm
Declining school performance
Students and families are at their best when their emotional well-being is supported. Please join us in our commitment to this effort by using our Student Care Line when you need it.
