A note from the Principal

Dear Parents & Caregivers

As we come to the last week of school with our students, I would like to offer my sincerest appreciation to our staff and families for welcoming me and my family into your community. It has been a massive learning curve for me this year as I’ve come to understand our context here at St Mary’s, and inevitably make decisions which I believe will set us up well for the future. Whilst we say goodbye to many great people, we look forward to welcoming some highly dedicated professionals to our team and I have great faith that they will go about their role in guiding your children through their primary school experience with the rigour, enthusiasm, and compassion that they deserve. I would also like to further extend my appreciation to our School Advisory Council who have been so thorough in their deliberation and supportive of the decisions made for the school. With the support of the staff, the School Advisory Council and the parent community, I am extremely positive leading into 2022 and know that the future at St Mary’s looks bright.

2021 Reports

Mr Gammon’s 2021 Principal address can now be found on the school website. Also available on the website is the School Advisory Council Chair report, Treasurer’s report and Parents and Friends Committee reports which can be found in the parent information tab under meeting minutes.

End of Year Graduation Mass

Last night, St Mary’s hosted our end of year Graduation Mass in the Church. At the Mass, our leaving staff were recognised, along with our graduating Year 6 students. Congratulations to all the award winners and Year 6 Leaders for 2022. Thank you to all the families who supported the evening and our graduating class.

Student Leadership

In order to give our students greater voice in our school, and to provide them with opportunities to develop as leaders, St Mary’s will be restructuring our student leadership roles for 2022. Next year we will have 2 heads, 2 vice-heads and 4 faction captains from Year 6, and 2 class representatives from Year 3, 4 and 5. These people will collectively form a student council and will work towards promoting student voice and driving our social justice initiatives in the school. Our new council will be working under the guidance of Mrs Annie Hutton.

CEWA Low Fees Initiative

Recently we shared information regarding next year’s fee structure and St Mary’s involvement in the Low Fees Initiative. Basically, Catholic Education is supporting us financially to reduce our fees making us more accessible and affordable to current and future families. The financial support they are giving us ensures that the programs and services we provide for our students are not compromised. Further information on the fee structure can now be found on our school website at:

SAC Annual Community Meeting

I am pleased to announce that Ben Rose, Merrin Lowe, Jo Swarbrick, Alex Nietrzeba, Gary Dimasi and Erin Delaporte will make up our Schools Advisory Council for 2022. Thank you to these people who will be joining our school leadership team in driving positive change in our school next year.

P&F Annual General Meeting

I am pleased to announce that a P&F Executive team has been secured for next year. Thank you to Sally Hunt (President), Melinda Golinski (Vice-president), Eileen Patane (Treasurer) and Samantha Russo (Secretary) who have volunteered their time to lead the P&F next year.

Nativity and Christmas Concert

Last fortnight we held our Nativity and Christmas concert night. It was a fantastic night that provided us with an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of Christmas and what it means to be Catholic in today’s world, as well as celebrate everything we have achieved as a school community this year. Thank you to Taryn Lindsay and the staff for their preparations.

P&F Apple Fun Park Day

Last Friday, we held our final assembly for the year before taking our students to the Apple Fun Park for the day. A big thank you must go to our P&F committee for their efforts in organising the day and food, and also to Merrin and Rowan Lowe from Amcal Donnybrook for organising the face painting for our students. It was great that members of the Police force were able to join us for the occasion and have a kick with our students and thank you also to the Shire for providing us the with opportunity to make use of such a great facility. It was a fitting end to the year and a great day for all.

It’s not too late to enrol for 2022. If you want to make the most of the great things happening at St Mary’s, please contact the office a.s.a.p. on 97324700.
