Glenealy School Newsletter
17th January 2018
Message from Brenda
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students
The students are now in full swing back into classroom programmes with new units of inquiries and lots of exciting learning opportunities and excursions taking place over the next few weeks. Mid term reports will go ‘live’ on Gateway on Monday 29 January. Year 4-6 results of International School Assessment (ISA) testing will be issued at this time also.
Discos
Lunch time discos will take place in about 3 weeks. Be sure to read the PTA section of the newsletter each week to find out how to secure your child’s ticket.
School Evaluation
You will be aware that the school began its re-accreditation process with the Council of International Schools (CIS) last term. As a result of this we have received many commendations across all areas of the school including the areas of; Purpose and Direction, Governance and Leadership, Student Learning and Wellbeing, Staffing, Premises and Community a Home Partnerships. The outcomes, including specific recommendations will be valuable in assisting the school to continue its strategic development. Our next steps are to undergo a self study using standards from the IB and CIS and this will culminate in a week-long accreditation visit to the school in March 2019. We will be reaching out to the community to get further feedback through a CIS questionnaire in the next month or so. More details to follow.
Jazzy Junior Journalists
I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce our new journalist team.
They are Sheri Tang (6S), Kaylene Lau (6S) and Isabelle Woo (6S).
This team is working hard with planning and writing exciting weekly articles for The Glenealy Globe, please do look at it and share it with your children. This week includes a school wide competition that I'm sure your child would be interested in.
New Social Media Study
Some parents maybe aware that the Children's Commissioner in the UK has released a very important piece of new research into how social media is used by 8-12 year olds and the effect it is having on their lives, titled 'Life in Likes'.
It's one of the only studies to focus on children under the age of 13 using social media, and it's a very interesting read.
It succinctly illustrates what apps children of different ages are using, as well as clearly explaining why they are using them and the potential trouble points, especially during the transition from primary to secondary school. I'm sure you will find these insights interesting.
Regards
Brenda
