Message from MBM
From MBM
February Vacation: I hope some of you get to take some time from life's crazy schedules over this February break. However, truth is, sometimes these breaks are for the kids and many adults still work. Youth is wasted on the young! TeeHee.
Maybe a fun winter reading challenge might help...Check it out! February Reading Challenge
Turn Off Technology Challenge
Play board games, do a scavenger hunt, cook together, get boxes from the grocery store and provide markers, crayons or paint and let their imaginations run wild. Remember building forts with blankets and pillows...that can be hours of fun and stretches their imagination.
Anyway, I hope you get to reconnect in some way over this break. It's not about spending money it's about spending time. That is our challenge. Good luck!

What Does It Mean To Be A RAVEN?
This week the RAVEN letter is R for Relationships:
Relationships
I Can Build Positive Relationships.
I can communicate effectively.
I can work cooperatively.
I can identify strategies to solve a problem.
I can ask for and offer help.
Building strong relationships is a key component to success, at school, at home, and at work.
It is not about being friends with everyone. It's about getting to know the story of those around you and respecting them for who they are.
If I see you with my eyes, I see that we are different
If I see you with my HEART I know that we are the same! (unknown)
Student Council at Roosevelt!
Under the guidance of Assistant Principal, Ms. Cruz, Roosevelt 4th and 5th grade students have assembled a Student Council. The group is composed of one representative from each class. Over the last few weeks students who were interested in running for a position submitted a detailed campaign platform and created campaign posters. Some students even created handouts! Candidates wrote and delivered campaign speeches during lunch. The voting process entailed an anonymous vote in the classroom in which students checked off the name of the candidate they were voting for and placing their ballots in the ballot box. Votes were tallied by Ms. Cruz and winners were revealed over the loud-speaker at the end of the day.
Candidates:

Procedure for Discussing School-Related Concerns
Facebook is great (for some things) but sometimes you can get way more than you bargained for!
Melrose believes in a strong partnership between home and school. If you have concerns, however, please begin with your child’s classroom teacher. If your concern is not resolved, please make an appointment with your building principal. Please see the following link to the “Melrose Chain of Communication” to help you determine who can help with discussing a school-related concern: https://www.melroseschools.com/sites/melrosemaps/files/uploads/melrose_chain_of_communication_parents.pdf.
