KMS Fall Counseling Update
From Lisa Ingalls & Anu Daniel
Dear Parents & Students-
As we approach November, the Killian counselors are proud of the Social / Emotional programs and activities we have provided for our Mustangs.
Some highlights include:
- A presentation from Denton Friends of the Family to our 8th graders in October: This presentation discussed the importance of developing quality relationships and being aware of behaviors that can lead to relationship abuse and family violence.
- Second Step lessons (digital version graciously provided through Castle Hills Education Foundation Funds) have highlighted developing a growth mindset, setting goals, and effective communication with others.
- Kindness Week: In late September, students participated in activities to help promote a climate of kindness in our building.
- Red Ribbon Month: Each week in October students participated in 5 advisory lessons on the dangers of drugs and strategies to wait. The topics of the lessons included: The Science Behind It, How to Say No, Coping & Stress Management, Recognizing Problems & How to Get Help, Finding Your Natural High & Goal Setting
- In November, the Suicide Prevention Lessons will be delivered to students. See below for more information.
- Below is information regarding the Red Ribbon Campaign, Suicide Prevention Lessons, and a parent presentation about Human Trafficking.
- In December, your child will be exposed to Career & Academic Advising lessons to help them get ready for next year's registration in January.
If you need more information, please reach out to your child's counselor.

RED RIBBON CAMPAIGN
RESILIENCY & SUICIDE PREVENTION CURRICULUM
Parents,
It is time for our annual lessons regarding managing stress and developing resiliency. The goal of these lessons is to bring awareness of signs of depression and anxiety so that our students link themselves or others to adults that can help them.
6th graders will have 3 lessons in the fall that introduces them to these topics & 7th/8th graders have a refresher lesson. For more information, please read the Parent Overview letter attached below. If you choose for your child NOT to participate in this lesson, please sign the waiver in the form below and return it to your child's counselor.
Thank you
