Why World Read Aloud Day?

Every year, on World Read Aloud Day, people all around the globe read aloud together and share stories to advocate for literacy as a human right that belongs to all people.
Check out the World Read Aloud website here: http://www.litworld.org/wrad/

STEAM Night - Thursday, Jan. 31st
After reading the book Each Kindness, we set up our own Kindness Bucket. With each random act of kindness we do, we drop a gem into the bucket of water to watch it ripple to remind us how kindness too can ripple out into the world!
Classroom Wish List
Below are items that we would love for our classroom.
- invisible tape

Ritchey Woods Outreach
Parents,
This week your child got the chance to learn more about Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve without having to leave their school! Fishers Parks & Recreation’s Chief Naturalist, Danesa Stolz visited class during our Nature First program. This one-hour outreach program teaches children about our environment through a combination of curriculum based activities paired with hands-on exploration. We invite you to join the conversation through this ask me about email. This email will assist you in learning about today’s topic. By reviewing with your student, you’re also helping them retain information for their in-class assignments. We hope this is a helpful tool that allows your family to connect over nature-related topics!
Ask me about….
Ask me who made maple syrup first.
- Native Americans were making maple syrup, maple candy and maple sugar long before the first European Settlers arrived.
Ask me about sap.
- Sap is in all trees and it is mostly water with a little bit of sugar.
- The sap of maple trees is used to make maple syrup (and Sugar Maple trees are the best maple tree for syrup because they have the most sugar).
- To turn sap into syrup we need to remove some water. We can remove water by freezing sap and turning the water into a solid. We can also remove the sap by boiling it and turning the water into a gas.
Ask me about the things I tasted and if I liked what I tasted.
Ask me about what I wrote in my nature journal.
Thanks for allowing your children to explore one of the most unique facilities in Fishers! For more information about Fishers Parks & Recreation, visit www.Fishers.in.us/Parks or follow us on Facebook @RWNP1983 or on Twitter at @RitcheyWoods. You can email Danesa Stolz at any time at stolzd@fishers.in.us or call her at 317-595-3458.
