December Deadlines:
Scholarship Detective–Two $1,000 Scholarships. Must complete the form and write a 140 character or less statement on how you plan to spend the money. Go to http://www.scholarshipdetective.com/scholarship/index.cfm?shw=0 for more info. Deadline is December 31st.
MoolahSPOT Scholarship –In 400 words or less answer one of four questions, 1-Why do you deserve to win this scholarship, 2-What is your academic or career goal, 3-What is most important to you and why, or 4-Any topic of your choice. Go to http://www.moolahspot.com/scholarship/index.cfm for more info. Deadline is December 31st.
January Deadlines:
Regent University Scholars Program- Partial to Full Scholarships available for seniors interested in attending Regent University! Applicant must have a completed application for admission submitted to Regent University by January 4, 2015, including latest official high school transcripts, essay/personal statement, and SAT/ACT scores. You must apply separately for Scholar's Weekend. Attendance to Scholars Weekend is mandatory to be eligible for scholarship consideration. Go to http://www.regent.edu/acad/undergrad/admissions/events/scholarsweekend/ for more details. Deadline is January 4th.
GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship- All applications must be completed online. Applicants must be seniors who demonstrate leadership, drive, integrity and citizenship. They must also have at least a 3.0 GPA, demonstrate financial need, and be American Citizens who plan to attend a four-year college or university. This award honors former President Ronald Reagan. Go to http://www.reaganfoundation.org/ge-rfscholarships.aspx for details. Deadline is January 8th.
Ron Brown Scholars Program- Application, transcript, letters of recommendation, school profile, essay. Applicants must be African-American seniors, excel academically, show exceptional leadership potential, make an impact on community, demonstrate financial need, must be eligible or accepted for admission to accredited institution of higher learning, and citizen of US. All parts of application must be sent in one package. Go to http://www.ronbrown.org for more information. Deadline is January 9th.
Hampton Roads Global Commerce Council- $1000. Write a 600-1,000 word essay on the following topic, “Ship line partnerships are a growing trend. Describe the impact to the industry as more partnerships, vessel sharing and alliances are formed between ship lines.” Go to www.hrgcc.org for more info. Applications and essays must be received by January 10th.
VA-ACME- $1,000. Deadline: Must be emailed by January 12th. Scholarship is open to children of active duty, drilling reservist, National Guard, and military retirees who hold a current military dependent ID card.Criteria for Selection: Resident of Virginia. Currently or will be pursuing a certificate, associate, baccalaureate, or graduate degree program. 3.0 GPA. Completed application package. See Mrs. Kressel for details.
Gates Millennium Scholars Program- Scholarship is available to seniors of minority heritage who have a 3.3 GPA or higher as well as demonstrated leadership through participation in community services or activities. Applicants must also meet Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria. The application is online for you to fill out. There are 3 parts to it (nominee, nominator & recommender). Please see Mrs. Kressel for help with this application-it is lengthy, but WORTH IT! See http://www.gmsp.org for details. Postmark deadline is January 14, 2015.
**Virginia Tech Pamplin Leader Award- $5,000. Seniors with a 3.8 GPA AND who rank in the top 10% who have applied to Tech, please pick up an application from Mrs. Kressel. Application & letter of recommendation required. **Salem can only submit ONE nomination, so the deadline to turn into Mrs. Kressel is Friday, January 23rd, even though application deadline states end of January.
Virginia PTA Citizenship Essay Contest- 2014-2015 theme is “I can positively influence my peers by…” 9th – 12th graders. Must write a minimum of 750 words, typed and double-spaced. See Mrs. Kressel for details and application. Or go to http://vapta.org/. Deadline to submit to Mrs. Kressel is January 29th.
Norfolk State University PARSONS Scholar- Must fill out NSU application and NSU Honors College Application. Must have combined 1000 SAT (Math plus Verbal) or 1450 if the SAT writing test is also taken. An ACT score of 21 is also acceptable. You must have at least a 3.0 unweighted high school GPA. Must have 3.0 GPA. Requirements: completed applications, essay, transcript, 1 letter of recommendation, & resume. Go to http://www.nsu.edu/honors/ for more details or see Mrs. Kressel. Last deadline is March 31st, but Honors college rep recommended to have everything completed ASAP or by January 31st.
February Deadlines:
Naomi Winston Scholarship in Art- Applicants must be a U.S. States citizen; between the ages of 16 and 22; must demonstrate a serious commitment to his or her art by stating career plans in writing, as well as immediate personal plans for further study; and must submit a CD and prints of his or her works to a chapter of the National Society of Arts and Letters. See Scholarship Central for application. Deadline is February 1st.
American Society of Military Comptrollers- $500-$1500. Applicants must be a high school student with interest in financial management. Provide a 250 word essay addressing career and academic goals and financial needs. You must be in upper 1/2 of graduating class and provide two letters of recommendation. Go to http://asmchrvascholarships.wordpress.com. See Scholarship Central or Mrs. Kressel for more details. Deadline is February 2nd.
**Charles Barker Automotive Scholarship- $500. Applicants must be seniors who demonstrate a dedication to community involvement and must be planning to attend a post-secondary school. See Mrs. Kressel or Scholarship Central for the application. Deadline is Feb. 13th. **-Specifically for Salem High Student!
**Tidewater Community College Outstanding High School Graduate Award- Applicants must be 2013 graduate; have a GPA of 3.0 or higher; and complete application. Four Semesters will be paid at TCC and it is one scholarship per high school. The deadline is February 24th at 5pm, however, if you’d like Mrs. Kressel to take your application to TCC for you, please turn it in by Friday, February 20th. **-Specifically for Salem High Student!
Chi Omicron Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.- Dyanne Buffington Memorial Scholarship- Applicants must be a graduating senior with a minimum GPA of 2.8 or better; must be planning to attend a two or four year college or university in the fall; submit application completely filled out with an essay attached. See Scholarship Central or Mrs. Kressel for more details. Postmark deadline is February 21st.
