The Buzz at Leeds
December 19, 2022
Message from Principal Wenz
Season's Greetings, Happy Holidays, and All the Best for a Prosperous New Year. Thanks for your invaluable partnership in 2022, and best wishes for a bright and happy New Year. Have a safe holiday break and we'll see you in 2023!
We had our first after school activities canceled this past Friday due to inclement weather. When after school activities are canceled, it is very important for caregivers to let our office know how your child will be going home if they were scheduled for Late Bird. This helps our office communicate with teachers and alleviates some anxiety for our kiddos. We will send a Talking Points text and you can reply to that or call the office (413)-587-1531 or send Sandy an email (sbombard@northampton-k12.us).
Just a reminder that our January/February Early Bird & Late Bird forms are ready to complete as well. This form must be returned by Monday, December 19th.

Update from Nurse Caelin
Here are some helpful ways to help stop the spread of germs from Dr. Pearson-Campbell's letter:
- Stay home when sick.
- Keep up–to-date on vaccinations.
- Wear a high-quality mask, if you are able.
- If you’re not masked, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow, not your hands
- Throw used tissues in the trash.
- Remember to immediately wash your hands after using a tissue, and before and after eating.
- If you test positive for COVID, stay at home for the next 5 days, and wear a mask when around others until day 11. If you’re unable to mask, continue to stay home until day 11.
- If you already requested a COVID test kit for the December vacation via the survey, these kits.
- will be distributed before December 16.
- COVID test kits will be available from each school’s nurse. If you would like one, please
- contact the school nurse.
- Washing your hands is an important way to prevent yourself and your loved ones from getting sick, especially at key times when you are likely to get and spread germs.
- Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol to clean hands.
We do ask that you keep your child home if they have a fever of 100 degrees or more, are vomiting, or have diarrhea. They may return to school once fever free without any medication for 24 hours, as well as vomiting and/or diarrhea free for 24 hours.
Please continue to report COVID and flu absences to me.
Thank you and I hope you have a healthy safe holiday break.
Nurse Caelin
Winter Wear Collection & Humanitarian Aid
Leeds’ 5th-Grade
Community Service Projects
December 13 - February
Leeds’ fifth-grade classes are collecting winter gear for those in need in Ukraine, supporting the International Rescue Committee and continuing to collect Personal Care Items for Northampton Survival Center. Watch for an upcoming flyer with details this week!
Snow Expectations
- In order to play in the snow, students must have snow boots, snow pants, coat, hat/hood, mittens/gloves.
- Students who have only boots or their shoes for school will be on our black top places on the playground.
- Students walk on all black top surfaces as they can be slick.
- Students are able to access our pavilion area.
If you need assistance in getting snow pants or boots, please let your child's teacher or Ms. Bastek (sbastek@northampton-k12.us or 413-587-1535) know. If you have snow clothes or boots that are too small for your child, please consider donating them to our school for others to use.
NPS Caregiver Survey 22-23
Northampton Public Schools would love to hear about your family and the relationship you have with the school your child attends.
Your responses will be kept confidential. The information collected in this survey will be aggregated and shared with school administrators and Action Teams without your email and name attached, in order to support strengthening family engagement both across the district and within each school.
After completing the survey, you will be directed to fill it out for additional children if applicable.
Thank you for sharing your experience!
Here are the survey links to send to families in your electronic communications All responses are recorded on a master spreadsheet that then can be aggregated by school. Each survey for a language other than English has their own response spreadsheet.
