Announcing the Buddy Family Program:
The Buddy Family Program connects new families with a host 'Buddy Family' in an effort to help welcome new families to the Steele community. We encourage you to sign up! If you are a family new to Steele, returning to Steele or just feel the Buddy Program would help you, we will match you with a host Steele family to welcome you and help you transition into Steele. Or if you are a family who is established at Steele, you can help welcome a new family to the Steele community with friendly advice on what to expect as parents and students in the school and the wider community.
It’s easy and a great way to meet more of your fellow Steele Star families! We will start with a kick-off event where you can meet and after that, it's up to you! You can sign up using this link: Steele PTA Buddy Family Program Sign-Up Form

A Note from the Counselor
“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” – Eleanor Roosevelt, used in this week’s 5th grade Random Acts of Kindness discussion
Hello Families!
Our classroom teachers have been launching their Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) lessons with the topic of Respect during August and continuing into September. For those who are unfamiliar with it, RAK is a social emotional curriculum used by D11 to “make kindness the norm” in our schools. Teachers involve students in hands-on projects and lead engaging conversations around a new topic related to Kindness every six weeks or so. With RAK, the whole school (students and staff) focuses on one topic together and we practice the skills on the playground, in the classroom, and with our friends and families.
This week, students are learning about respect for self, others, home and school. Students are learning that when we take care of ourselves, we have more to give. When we learn about others and respect them, we can grow more empathy and let others know they matter to us. When we show respect for our home and school, the people in them and their physical spaces, we make a better environment for everyone. We hope your children talk about the RAK topics with you at home all year long!
Please reach out if I can help support you or your family this year at Steele!
Warmly,
Anna Donovan
