RHS Teacher Professional Development Day

As you know, Wednesday was one of our teacher PD days. These days are important to help us continue to grow and develop our skills to provide your children with a great education. Last year, it was determined that student engagement and social-emotional learning were what our students needed most coming out of the pandemic. To support this, Romeo High School chose to train our teachers in Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures this year and next. Kagan structures have been implemented from kindergarten through university graduate programs (including Harvard) to increase engagement, improve learning, build relationships, and learn 21st century skills such as cooperation, communication, and working in a team. We have already seen a change in our classrooms and encourage you to ask your children if they have noticed a change. The links below provide more information about Kagan Cooperative Learning:

RHS Newsletter

Each week, our students produce a weekly newsletter to share all the wonderful things going on at Romeo High School. Please take a few minutes to read through.

Reminders

Message from the District Nurse

With the weather changing, parents have been asking for guidance regarding when to keep kids home from school and for how long. Here is some information for you all:

Sickness Reminders:

Cold, stomach bug and flu season is upon us. Here are a few reminders about when to keep your student home to rest:

  • Fever greater than 100, without the help of fever reducing medications

  • Vomiting (even if it happened once)

  • Diarrhea

  • Chills

  • General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches

  • Frequent congested (wet) or croupy cough

  • If your student has a confirmed case of an illness from the Doctor (Strep, Influenza, Covid, etc.) please let the office know when you report their absence.

Students may return to school if:

  • Fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing medication

  • Vomiting free for 24 hours

  • Symptoms have resolved or otherwise directed by a doctor

Student Carry Medications:

Students who carry medications on them at school (motrin, epi-pen, tylenol) MUST have a doctor order on file with the Med Office. This order must be signed by the doctor and parent. These can be found on the RCS website.

–For those students that do have orders on file and self-carry medications, please remember that there is a special responsibility that goes along with carrying medication. This is a great time to have students who self-carry communicate with their teachers/coach/bus driver and show them where their medication is kept, especially if it were to ever possibly be needed in an emergency situation. Please remind your student their medication is to only be taken by YOU, the student, and not shared with others for any reason.
