The J-Hawk Experience!
Info you need to know for week of December 3 - 7!
Message from the principal
This past week we had a very sad loss to our school. Dawn Ipson, a member of our Nutrition Services team at the high school, passed away on Thursday due to injuries she received when she was struck by a car as she crossed the street in the crosswalk on Aurora and 72nd. Dawn was a highly valued member of our Urbandale team since 2001, and at UHS over the past 11 years. She will be deeply missed by all of those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Dawn was also a 1974 graduate of Urbandale High School.
The circumstances around this accident also serve as reminder the importance of safety to all who are driving and transporting to and from around school whether it be for drop off or pick up. It is critical to use extreme caution and be aware of your surroundings and those around you. When in the parking lot, please also remember to reduce speeds.
Counseling support will be provided tomorrow and will continue to be provided as long as needed. Many of our students knew Dawn and it is normal for children to feel a strong sense of loss. You may also experience a similar sense of loss. If your child’s response concerns you or you feel he/she could benefit from additional support, please contact the school and we will be sure to follow up with one of our counselors.
Sincerely,
Tim Carver
Principal

Urbandale Education Foundation -- Brad Peyton Memorial information
As we enter into another holiday season, the Urbandale Education Foundation would like to extend a sincere thank you for your support of the Brad Peyton Memorial Golf event. We are grateful for the 200 sponsors, participants, volunteers and dinner guests who came together this past June to honor a family, celebrate a life, and support Urbandale Schools.
Since the tourney began in 2014, we’ve raised over $100,000 in support of scholarships for students, classroom grants for teachers, and alumni connections. All of which wouldn’t have been possible without you!
As we begin to plan for our 2019 event, we hope you will again consider supporting the golf tournament. We are recruiting Title, Lead, Lunch, Beverage, and Hole sponsors. Details of all sponsorship levels are listed in the attached PDF; you’re also welcome to sign up online.
You may be in the midst of planning your charitable donations for the coming year. We will be contacting you shortly after the first of the year to request your commitment to supporting the upcoming Peyton Memorial Golf Tournament scheduled for Monday, June 24, 2019, at Hyperion Field Club.
Thank you for your support and we’re looking forward to another successful event in 2019!
Sincerely,
Dan Meyer
Peyton Memorial Golf Tournament Director
