GMS Principal's Corner

January 9, 2022

Dear Galvin Families,

We hope everyone had a restful and relaxing weekend and enjoyed the snow! Tomorrow is a Day 4. Just a reminder, students will continue to be outside as often as possible weather permitting. Please have your child dressed for the weather with the expectation they may be outside for lunch, mask breaks, or before school.

Every month, one of the many ways we recognize our outstanding students is through our PAWS awards. Each team of teachers nominates four students each month who exemplify our Core Values: Positive Attitude, Academic Excellence, Work Ethic, and Supportive of Others. Pictures of these students and the categories are displayed in our main lobby when you enter the Galvin. We are proud of our students and are always seeking ways to recognize their accomplishments.

Thank you,

GMS Administration

Student Demographic Verification

On Wednesday, December 8th an email was sent to all GMS families containing a link to your child’s demographic information. Another email was sent on Thursday, January 6th to those families that we are still awaiting a response from. It is very important that we have accurate student information on file. This includes student and parent/guardian contact information, as well as emergency and medical information. Please take a few moments to read this email, review the data and make any updates. If after reviewing the information you find that no changes have been made, please SUBMIT the form regardless. This will alert us that your child’s information is accurate.

If you did not receive this email, please first check your junk/spam folder. In the event that an email was not received, please contact the GMS main office at 781-821-5070 so that we may update your email address and resend you the form.

Thank you.

We previously shared with families an electronic copy of the GMS Student and Family Handbook with the District Appendix. This Handbook is also posted on our school website. The link to this handbook can be found here: Approved GMS Handbook with Appendix.

It is the responsibility of each family to review the Handbook together and to fill out the 2021-22 Canton Public Schools Student/Family Handbook and Permissions Signature Page. The link to the Google Form can be found here. Please ☑ each section and electronically sign this form as receipt and agreement as stated below. We ask that you complete this form for each child you have at the Galvin.

We appreciate your attention to this matter.

Chromebooks: Important Reminder

It is our students' responsibility to bring their charged Chromebook to school with them each day. We have a very limited number of loaners available and are using those to first support students who's Chromebooks aren't working. The Chromebook is an essential, daily, school supply. Please help your child come up with a process that allows them to have their device ready for school each day. Thank you.

GMS Clubs - Winter 2022

Clubs are Back!!

Winter 2022 after school clubs are back and starting on Monday, January 10, 2022. Clubs will run for one hour after school for the next 5 weeks. Reminder that the late bus runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you didn't sign up for this session be on the lookout for the Spring 2022 club list coming in mid March!

CAASA Half-Day Program

On January 14th from 11:15-1:00pm, the Canton Alliance Against Substance Abuse (CAASA) is offering an after-school program to Galvin Middle School students following early release. Students can remain at school and join CAASA for a pizza lunch. Students will compete in a health-themed internet scavenger hunt, with prizes, and make their own personal health plans. CAASA will overview its youth program & invite attendees to sign up if they would like to get involved.

This program intends to provide a safe, healthy, and productive environment for students who may otherwise have unstructured or unsupervised time on early release days. A secondary intent is that the program alleviates childcare logistics for caregivers that may arise due to the early release from school.

This event is free. For GMS students only. Sign up is required using this form. This program will be held at the middle school, exact classroom(s) # TBD. Student pick up required at 1:00pm.

Please email Melanie Floyd at with questions.

GMS Math Team

The GMS Math team took home 3rd place at our second math meet of the season. 8th grader Karen W. led the team with a perfect score and 7th grade sisters Sameeksha N. and Anushka N. brought us into the top 3 with their high overall scores. We are looking forward to our third meet on January 13th!

GMS Spirit Days

Leading up to winter break, students enjoyed participating in two weeks of spirit days. Below are some pictures from twins/multiples day and Canton spirit day.

Substitute Teachers

Do you have a college-age child home for winter break? If so, would they be interested in subbing for the Canton Public Schools while they are here? Subbing is a great way to keep busy, make money and get real-world work experience. In Canton, we have had great success bringing our own, former students back to help support our students and schools during this busy time year. If your child is interested, please have them fill out this sub application packet and email it to Kim Eardley ( to get the process started. If they fill it out before they get home, the process can begin asap!

Students in their first year of college are able to sub at the elementary and preschool levels only.

Students in their second year or beyond can sub at all school levels.

Lunch Aide

GMS is looking for a lunch aide to help supervise lunches each school day from 11:15 am to 1:00 pm. If you are interested in joining the Galvin team, please email Mr. Spillane,

At a prior School Committee meeting updated COVID-19 Protocols were approved. Please click here to access them: Canton Covid-19 Protocols.
