From the Principal

What an amazing start to our school year! Having classrooms filled with smiling faces and excited children has brought such an energy into Ferson that was definitely missing over the summer. I have had the opportunity to meet so many of your wonderful children as they have warmly accepted me into their Ferson community.

Your children deserve accolades for their outstanding behavior in the lunchroom this week. The lunchroom can be overwhelming as it is sometimes loud and unstructured. As we have welcomed children into this space, they have been being kind, following directions, and using appropriate tones of voice. A special shout-out needs to be given to our 5th grade students who have been wonderful role models for the kindergarten students with whom they share the cafeteria.

Next week we begin our universal screening. Completed by specialists in the building, these screening tools allow us to reflect on our core instruction as well as determine how to best meet the needs of your children. For our Kindergarten - 2nd grade students, we use FastBridge assessments while 3rd-5th graders will take Performance Series. These assessments are not new to Ferson, but they may be new to your children depending on their grade level. Please see the attached letter from the district assessment department for more information regarding our universal screeners/benchmark assessments.

I hope that your families are enjoying getting back into the back-to-school routine and are as excited for this school year as I am!

Enjoy your weekend!
